#5 Arizona St. was dealt a crushing blow when they received news that Jr. LHP Josh Spence is likely to miss the rest of the season with a strained tendon in his pitching hand. On Sunday, head coach Pat Murphy announced that there was only a 5% chance that Spence would throw another pitch this season, although they will tinker with his delivery in hopes of prepping him for some relief appearances in a couple of weeks. Palmetto State Baseball is reporting that shortstop Stan Widmann has left the Clemson Tigers baseball program and quit school ending his career with the Clemson program. He only appeared in one game this season for the Tigers where he served as a pinch runner. He was still feeling the lingering effects of a shoulder injury which plagued him last season and never fully recovered. ![]() Porlier looks for a strong 2009 season Oklahoma’s Robert Porlier threw off the mound for the first time in about a year after having surgery on a partailly torn labrum in his right arm. He had surgery after his appearance on November 10th 2007 in a Red/White intersquad scrimmage which caused him to miss the 2008 campaign. Porlier was a solid pitcher during the 2007 season where he held down the number 1 spot in the rotation. His 2007 record was 7-5 with 99 strikeouts in 99 innings pitched. He was named to the All-Big 12 second team in 2007 for his strong campaign. He fell through a glass coffee table which severed two nerves, a ligament, and an artery last week. He will require surgery and a cast for up to two months which could end up keeping him out for the year. Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina freshman right-handed pitcher Matt Price sustained a fractured right wrist injury in a collision at first base in Tuesday night’s game at The Citadel and will miss the remainder of the 2009 season. 
Sean Ryan who was the starting center fielder for the Virginia Tech Hokies will be out for the rest of the season as he is having surgery to remove a piece of bone in his broken left hand. He is currently a senior and would likely get a fifth year of eligibility if he applies with the NCAA. 
The Miami Herald is reporting that Eric Erickson will miss the 2009 campaign after undergoing left elbow reconstructive surgery. Erickson was expected to be a part of one of the strongest pitching staffs in the country in 2008 with teammate Chris Hernandez.

UCLA outfielder/left-handed pitcher Justin Uribe will miss the rest of the season with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left arm according to a a report on Rivals.com. He was injured pitching on March 25th in a loss to San Diego State. This is a huge loss for the UCLA program as Uribe was one of the teams top pitchers this season with a 2-0 record and a 1.35 ERA. According to a report on VUCommodores.com, Pedro Alvarez will be out the next 6 weeks with a broken bone in his hand which he suffered in his first at-bat of the season. Head Coach Tim Corbin is quoted as saying “Obviously we will miss having him in the lineup and in the field. He is a special player that can’t be replaced. This is the kind of injury you don’t rush back from and we hope to have him back at full strength later in the season.”
