CONWAY, S.C. - East Carolina senior pitcher T.J. Hose tossed a four-hit, complete game shutout to lead the Pirates to a 9-0 victory over Columbia in an NCAA Conway Regional elimination game Saturday afternoon.
The Pirates (40-21) will face the loser of tonight’s Alabama-Coastal Carolina game Sunday at 1 p.m. Columbia finished its season with an overall record of 22-30. Read the rest of this entry »

CONWAY, S.C. - Top-seeded Coastal Carolina scored three runs in the top of the fifth and then added six more in the eighth as the Chanticleers powered their way to a 10-2 victory over fourth-seeded Columbia in the first game of the 2008 NCAA Baseball Conway Regional Friday, May 30 at Watson Stadium/Vrooman Field. With the win, Coastal advances to play the winner of the East Carolina/Alabama game at 7 p.m., Saturday, May 31. Columbia will face the loser of the East Carolina/Alabama game at 1 p.m., on Saturday. The Coastal Carolina baseball squad will be hosting a regional for the second straight year but the difference this season is that the Chanticleers will be the playing at their real home field. They will be joined by East Carolina, Alabama, and Columbia. Coastal Carolina has a record of 47-12 while going 17-3 in the Big South. East Carolina enters with a 40-19 mark while going 13-11 in Conference USA. The Crimson Tide come in with a 34-26 record with a 16-14 record in a tough SEC conference. HANOVER, N.H. - The Lions won the Ivy League Baseball Championship after defeating the Big Green 7-5 in the deciding game of the best-of-three series at Red Rolfe Field.
In 1977, Columbia was co-Ivy League champion with Cornell. This will mark Columbia’s first NCAA appearance since 1976.
“Being able to fight back and tie yesterday’s second game and coming back again today is a credit to our guys being confident and not afraid to lose,” head coach Brett Boretti said after the game. Read the rest of this entry »

HANOVER, N.H. After dropping the first game to Columbia, the Dartmouth baseball team bounced back to force a deciding third game in the Ivy League Championship with a 16-15 win in the nightcap.
Dartmouth moves to 25-16 on the season, while Columbia is now 21-25 this year. The two teams combined to score 49 runs on 70 hits in both games. Columbia scored in double-digits in each game, winning game one 11-7 and putting 15 runs on the board in the second game. Read the rest of this entry »

HANOVER, N.H. – The three-game Ivy League Championship series between Dartmouth and Columbia has been postponed both Saturday and Sunday.
The new dates for the series will be this coming Tuesday with a 12 p.m. first pitch of a doubleheader, followed by a third game if necessary on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Brookline, Mass. - Matt Rogers’ decisive eighth inning home run powered Harvard to a 7-6 victory over Northeastern in the Crimson’s regular season finale Wednesday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.
With the score tied at six and one out in the top of the eighth, Rogers connected on the first pitch the saw from reliever Dan Zehr (1-4) for a no doubter, high over the scoreboard in left-center for his third long ball of the season. The College Baseball Blog made the trip on Saturday to Cambridge to see the Harvard Crimson take on the Dartmouth Big Green in the final Ivy League home games for the Crimson on the year. CHARLOTTE, N.C. - No. 2 North Carolina pounded out a season-high 22 hits and had five pitchers combine on a four-hit shutout in a 17-0 win over Charlotte Tuesday at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium. BOSTON, Mass. - For the first time since 2000, UMass (11-14) won the Beanpot Championship by defeating the Boston College Eagles (18-18), 4-3, behind a fantastic pitching performance from Mike DiCato (Winthrop, Mass.) on Tuesday afternoon at Fenway Park. DiCato took a no-hitter into the ninth inning before allowing a bloop single with no outs. The Eagles looked to make a comeback in the bottom of the ninth, but Mitchell Eilenberg (Brooklyn, N.Y.) shut down the Eagle’s offense by retiring the final two batters of the game for his second save of the season. BC’s starter, Kevin Moran, struggled in the top of the first, allowing three runs to give UMass a 3-0 lead. LYNN, Mass. - Mike DiCato (Winthrop, Mass.) and Nathan Monroy (Flemington, N.J.) combined on a four-hit shutout to defeat Harvard, 3-0, in the opening round of the Beanpot at Fraser Field on Wednesday night. DiCato (1-1) hurled 6 2/3 shutout innings, allowing only three hits while striking out five to earn his first victory of the season. Philadelphia, PA - Senior pitcher Alex Silverman (Wilmington, NC) out-pitched Penn ace Todd Roth, with a little help from his closer, to help the Brown baseball team (7-11, 1-3 Ivy League) pick up its first Ivy League win in a split with Penn (7-9-1, 1-2-1 Ivy League) on Sunday at Meiklejohn Stadium. Silverman went 6.1 innings before giving way to senior closer Rob Hallberg (River Edge, NJ) for the final two outs in the Bears’ 2-1 game one win, before Penn’s five-run rally in the fifth inning of game two led to a 6-4 Quaker win for the split. Gotham Baseball has put out their Players of the Week and Weekend Recap. They have given the Beast of the Week to Jack Murphy of Princeton for going 16-30 with nine RBI for last week. The College of New Jersey pitcher Mike Oliver was named the pitcher of the week after striking out an amassing 16 batters in a seven inning game.
