Bradenton, Fla. - Harvard and Lafayette split a Sunday doubleheader in games played at Manatee Community College. The Crimson, backed by a strong pitching performance, took game one by a score of 4-1 before the Leopards jumped out to a big lead in a 13-2 victory in the second game.

In the first game, Lafayette (6-4) jumped on top with a single run in the bottom of the second. Tom Ambrosole singled to left with one out and scored on a triple down the left field line by Justin Shepard when Harvard’s (1-6) relay throw to home hit Ambrosole in the back 25 feet from home plate. The Georgia Southern Eagles set an NCAA Record by hitting 14 homers yesterday against Columbia. Chris Shehan and Griffin Benedict each homered twice for GA Southern who had 12 different players homer in the 26-8 victory over Columbia. The full game recap is available here.

For the second time in a week, an Ivy League program defeated an SEC team this time the Yale Bulldogs went down to Columbia SC and defeated the number 4 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks. The Bulldogs used four pitchers in the game while allowing South Carolina to only five hits. Yale starter Stefan Schropp pitched the first five innings of the game allowing only three hits and one run. He was followed by Chris Walsh who struggled through 1.1 innings while giving up two hits and two runs. Read the rest of this entry »

The Brown University Bears knocked off Florida in Game 1 of their doubleheader by a score of 11-2. The Bears got a strong pitching performance from Will Weidig went eight strong innings while scattering five hits and allowing two runs to lead them to victory. Nick Punal hit a three run homer in the sixth inning to give the Bears more then enough runs to cruise to the victory in Game 1. Read the rest of this entry »

Tallahassee, Fla. - Florida State (6-0) remained undefeated on the season with a 4-3 victory over Auburn (4-3) in front of a crowd of 6,544, the fourth largest crowd to witness a game at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles got seven shutout innings from senior Ryan Strauss and three solo home runs on Saturday afternoon to win their third straight game over the Tigers this season. The Harvard Media Relation department has put out the 2008 Preseason Prospectus. The Crimson finished in second place in the Red Rolfe Division behind the Brown Bears. Harvard lost nine out of their 23 starters from last season’s squad including Steffan Wilson. The full prospectus is available in PDF format here. WARNING: IT IS A LARGE FILE.

The Harvard Crimson has put out their 2008 schedule which is one of the best OOC schedules in the entire nation. The Crimson will open the season on March 7th when they head to Wichita State for the first game of a three game set.
