LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas baseball head coach Ritch Price released the team’s 2010 schedule Thursday. The Jayhawks’ 56-game ledger includes 25 games at Hoglund Ballpark as well as 30 contests against teams which qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season.

Share Rivals.com College Baseball editor Kendall Rogers has put out an article detailing five programs that are rising in prestige and five that are starting to fall off the map. The programs that he sees coming on are: TCU, Virginia, East Carolina, Kansas and Ohio State. The five programs that are starting to fall are: Arizona, Baylor, Tulane, Nebraska, and California. He has some interesting commentary on each team as I can see his reasoning on all the programs except for one in Baylor.

Share The College Baseball Blog staff recently got together to start discussing the 2010 season. We have each put out our 2010 picks for the College World Series. The most popular selection is Texas showing up on all six ballots with LSU, Cal-State Fullerton, and Virginia showing up on five of them. Share Kendall Rogers continues his series of conference reports heading into Fall Practice with the Big 12. He states that the Big 12 on paper is slightly down from where they have been in the past couple of years but as I always say when the pedal gets to the metal in February we will see how strong the Big 12 actually is.

UCF Leads All Conference USA Baseball Programs in Team GPA
ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – Already having set two program academic records in 2008-09, UCF baseball learned that its efforts in the classroom are standing out in Conference USA as well. The Knights ranked first of all C-USA baseball teams with an annual grade-point average of 3.174 to receive the league’s Sports Academic Award.

(PRINCE GEORGE, British Columbia) – Team USA pitchers surrendered three home runs and German pitcher Tim Henkenjohann pitched 8.2 innings as Team Germany beat the U.S., 6-3, at the 2009 Enbridge Northern Pipeline World Baseball Challenge at Prince George Citizen Field.
USA starter T.J. Walz (Kansas) surrendered a solo home run to Jendrick Speer and a two-run shot to Simon Guerhing in the bottom of the fourth inning as Germany (2-1) went up 3-0 on the U.S.

(TOKYO) – Matt Newman (Arizona State) went 3-5 with four RBI for Team USA, but Japan rode a six-run third inning on its way to a 7-5 victory over the U.S., Monday, in the second game of the 37th Annual USA vs. Japan Collegiate Championship in the Tokyo Dome.
Team USA scored two runs in the first inning on Japanese starting pitcher Yuki Saito. Matt Newman (Arizona State) hit an RBI single to centerfield to score Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) from second base and Andy Wilkins singled through the right side to bring in Newman for the early 2-0 lead. Share Tim Dwyer of The University Daily Kansan has a great article on Kansas pitcher T.J. Walz who made the 2009 USA National Team on one of the final days of tryouts. He ended up pitching four innings allowing only a run on two hits during his trial appearance. He has also made an appearance against Canada where he went 4.1 innings while striking out nine batters and allowing only one hit and walk. Read the rest of this entry »

(KANNAPOLIS, N.C.) – Drew Pomeranz (Ole Miss) broke the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) record for strikeouts in a game with 17 and pitched six solid innings to lead the National Team to a 15-1 victory at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in the opening game of a four-game friendship series against Guatemala.
