The Cornell baseball program has announced their 2008 schedule which is highlighted by a season opening tournament where they will play face Siena and the host Virginia in four games. They will also take part in the Villanova Classic where they will play Temple, LaSalle, and the host Wildcats. The Big Red will make their annual trip to Florida but they have not announced opponents for the entire week. The team will open at home against Ivy League power Harvard on March 29th. The LaSalle Explorers hired Mike Lake to head their baseball program. Lake is a 1982 graduate of the university and has spent the last four seasons as the top assistant coach to former head coach Lee Saverio who was let go earlier this season after a 17-32 season and an 8-19 record in the Atlantic-10.

Rich Prall hit a two run homer and John Rickards had two hits as they led the Explorers to a 6-3 victory over city rivals Penn. Christian Schulz gave up one run in his two innings of work to get his first win of the year. Bret Wallace got the loss for the Quakers by giving up two runs in 0.1 innings of work. Wallace’s record drops to 0-1 on the season. Josh Corn and William Gordon each had a hit and an RBI for the Quakers in the losing effort. No Quaker had multiple hits in the game as they were stymied by the pitching of the Explorers. La Salle will be back in action this weekend when they head to St. Joseph’s while Penn travels to Cornell.

The Delaware Blue Hens used a 17 hit attack to knock off La Salle 12-9. Every starter for the Blue Hens had at least one hit in the game with Scott Shockley going 4-5 with 3 runs scored and a run driven in to lead the offensive attack. La Salle was led on offense by John Rickards and George Papuchis who each had two hits for the Explorers. Delaware will be back in action on Wednesday at Rider while La Salle hosts St. Louis on Friday.
