Gamecocks set to welcome new baseball stadium
“There will not be a more impressive college baseball stadium in the country.” Those are the words of Athletic Director Eric Hyman in reference to USC’s new ballpark that will be opening in time for this year’s season.
Carolina fans sorrowfully said goodbye to Sarge Frye Field last year, a stadium rife with countless memories of players, coaches and unforgettable games. Nestled right below the Roost, the Sarge was the home site of Carolina baseball for 29 great seasons.

PHILADELPHIA (4/29/08) – Temple freshman Byron McKoy (Charlotte, NC / Independence) and La Salle junior Drew Gerhart (Richboro, PA / Council Rock North) have been named the Philadelphia Big 5 Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, in voting conducted by the schools’ head coaches and sports information offices. PHILADELPHIA (4/8/08) – Villanova junior Joe Cotter (Bryn Mawr, PA / Pottsgrove) and La Salle freshman Kevin Fuqua (Derwood, MD / Avalon School) have been named the Philadelphia Big 5 Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, in voting conducted by the schools’ head coaches and sports information offices.
Cotter batted .563 with seven RBI to lead the Wildcats to a perfect 5-0 week, including a Big East sweep of Georgetown. Cotter added two doubles, two home runs and slugged 1.063 in five games past week. Read the rest of this entry »

Junior Frank Pesanello hit what was the eventual game-winning, pinch-hit, three-run homer in the top of the eighth inning to guide the Northeastern University baseball team to an 8-6 victory over the Rhode Island Rams at Bill Beck Field in Kingston, Rhode Island on Tuesday evening.
Pesanello’s homer was his sixth of the season, putting him second on the team behind captain Mike Lyon, who has eight on the season. Lyon, who has been anchoring the Husky attack all season, led the team with three hits, including two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Read the rest of this entry »

The A-10 Conference has released their 2007 Pre-Season Baseball Poll. They have picked Charlotte to win the title behind third baseman Aaron Bray’s potent bat. The defending champion St. Louis and URI round out the top three. It should be an interesting season in the A-10 conference like usual and the full press release on the poll is available here.
