FROM PATRIOT LEAGUE

Center Valley, Pa. - After earning the top seed in this weekend’s Patriot League Tournament, Army reaped the benefits of its stellar season by leading all teams with eight selections on the 2008 Patriot League Baseball All-League Team. The team was voted on by the League’s six head coaches, who could not vote for their own student-athletes.

The Black Knights placed three players on the first team, while five garnered second-team honors. Bucknell followed Army with seven selections, while Navy had six picks overall and a League-high five student-athletes that received first-team honors. ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Senior Brendan Akashian (Lowell, Mass.) went 4-for-8 with a double and two RBIs while freshman Eric Oxford (Danavers, Mass.) went 3-for-8 with three RBIs and a double as the Holy Cross baseball team split with Navy in a Patriot League doubleheader, winning the first game 11-5 and dropping game two, 2-1. WEST POINT, N.Y. โ€“ Cole White scattered six hits in the opener, and Matt Fouch and Kirk Porter combined on a three-hitter in the nightcap as Army regained a share of first place in the Patriot League standings by posting a pair of shutout victories against Lehigh, Sunday afternoon at Doubleday Field.

The Black Knights won the first game 5-0 behind the stellar pitching of White, then rode the dominant performances of Fouch and Porter to a 6-0 victory in the second game. LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell baseball squad rode clutch performances by senior Mathew Wilson (Toronto, Ontario/Northern S.S.) and sophomore Ben Yoder (Belleville, Pa./Indian Valley) to a doubleheader sweep of Holy Cross on Sunday afternoon on Depew Field. Wilson fanned 11 batters in a complete game shutout effort as the Bison defeated the Crusaders, 3-0, in game one, while Yoder registered a walk off single in the bottom of the ninth in game two, leading the Orange and Blue to a 7-6 victory in that contest. BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Navy infielder Thomas Hamilton (Sr./Houston, Texas) homered in both games as the Midshipmen split a Sunday doubleheader against Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa. The Mids won the opener, 4-2, before the Mountain Hawks rallied for 6-5 victory in the nightcap.

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Bucknell baseball team finished off its series with Army on Sunday with a sweep of the second doubleheader of the weekend. The Bison took game one, 8-5, and rode a solid pitching performance by freshman Dylan Seeley (Shavertown, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) to a 3-1 victory in game two. With the pair of wins, the Bison are now 13-10-2 on the season, 3-1 in the Patriot League, while the Black Knights fall to 6-16 and 1-3.

TAMPA, Fla. — Sophomore Chase Anderson struck out six batters and junior Trey Sperring had three RBIs in Oklahoma’s 6-1 victory on Tuesday over South Florida at Red McEwen field. The win improved the Sooners’ overall record to 16-5 while the Bulls fell to 10-7.

In his fourth start of the year, Anderson delivered his best outing as a Sooner, striking out a season-high six batters. Anderson (2-1), who struggled in his last start allowing four runs in 1 1/3 innings against Washington State, limited the Bulls’ offense on Tuesday to one run off five hits and two walks.
