#1 Lewis-Clark State lost their opener to Concordia-Portland 5-4, and this was the first time the Cavaliers have beaten the Warriors in 42 attempts. Steven Taft got the win in relief for the Cavaliers, and C Tommy Whalen doubled in the winning run in the top of the ninth, but the key player in the win was starter Ben Rue, who went six innings, and held the Warriors to two runs on six hits.
The defending champions won their next three games. They host another tournament this weekend, with Northwest Nazarene, Saint Martin’s, and Dickinson State. They host Gonzaga on Feb. 25.
#2 Lee is now 9-0. LHP Mitch Davidson has two mercy-rule-shortened no-hitters for the Flames, and only one of their wins was close. They visit Georgetown College Feb. 20-21, and Montreat Feb. 24. Read the rest of this entry »

Oklahoma City leads the way with three members
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Three members from Oklahoma City University highlight the 2009 NAIA Baseball Preseason All-America Team, announced November 7. The three members are the most of any NAIA school on the list. 2008 National Champion Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) places one player, catcher and World Series Most Valuable Player Brian Ward, on the squad.
Of the 17 players on the team, 15 stand-outs will enter the 2009 season as a senior. There are six players that were recognized on the 2008 NAIA All-America First Team. Only one player, senior Jesse Bachman from Spring Arbor (Mich.), was on the 2008 NAIA Preseason All-America Team. The 6-0 pitcher is a two-time First-Team All-American and went 8-2 with a 2.43 ERA last season leading the Cougars to the NAIA World Series. Read the rest of this entry »

McNiven, the starter, went six innings, and didn’t allow a hit until the sixth inning. The Netherlands’ only other hit came off Burton in the ninth, but Burton struck out the other three batters he faced. Read the rest of this entry »
