Kentucky 2 Western Kentucky 1

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Collin Cowgill and Ryan Wilkes delivered solo home runs, lifting the 17th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats to a 2-1 victory over state rival Western Kentucky – sweeping the two-game season series - in front of a WKU school-record 3,057 fans at Nick Denes Field.

Kentucky (31-10, 9-9 Southeastern Conference) got the only two runs it needed from Cowgill and Wilkes. Cowgill’s home run was his 16th of the season, good for second in the NCAA, three behind Georgia shortstop Gordon Beckham’s 19 homers on the year. LYNCHBURG, Va.– A.J. Yoder’s single up the middle plated Brian Sandridge with the winning run in the 16th inning as VMI defeated Liberty 6-5 on Saturday evening in Big South Conference action at Worthington Stadium.

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Junior first baseman Yonder Alonso blasted a two-out two-run ninth inning home run and No. 1 Miami overcame a seven-run deficit to rally past Florida Atlantic, 12-10, Wednesday night at FAU Stadium in front of 2,348 fans. Oklahoma 5 TCU 4 (12 innings)

FORT WORTH, Texas - For the second straight contest, the TCU Horned Frogs found themselves trailing heading into the ninth inning only to rally to tie the game. This time the Frogs needed three runs to tie the game at four, but Oklahoma broke the tie in the 12th inning to take a 5-4 victory Tuesday night at Lupton Stadium. CORAL GABLES, FL - Florida Atlantic right-hander Michael Obradovich struck out a season-best seven batters, allowing just three runs in eight outstanding innings and All-America candidate William Block hit two home runs in the Owls’ 6-3 win over No. 1 Miami.

Alabama 12 Mississippi Valley State 4

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Junior outfielder Tyler Odle went 3-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and scored five runs in leading Alabama to a 12-4 win over Mississippi Valley State Tuesday night at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

Odle is the first Alabama player to score five runs in a game since Casey Lambert scored five runs in the Crimson Tide’s 26-7 win at Kentucky on March 18, 2001. Odle was hit by a pitch and scored in the first inning and slammed his first home run of the season in the third inning to give the Tide a 2-0 lead. Hofstra 12 Coppin State 3

Hempstead, NY- Hofstra scored three or more runs in the first three innings during which Matt Kougasian had four RBI and Nick Panzarella had three RBI as the Pride defeated Coppin State, 12-3, Wednesday afternoon. With the victory the Pride improve to 8-16 while the Eagles fall to 3-23.

Hofstra jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning. After the first three runners reached base for the Pride, Kougasian drove a run home with a sacrifice fly for the first run. KINGSTON, RI (3/22/08) – Temple scored seven runs in the fourth inning and won for the fourth straight game with a 9-6 victory over Rhode Island on Saturday at Bill Beck Field. Junior Kyle Obal (Derwood, MD / Sherwood) had four hits and two RBI, while freshman Byron McKoy (Charlotte, NC / Independence) was a triple away from the cycle and had three hits. Junior Matt Mongiardini (Toms River, NJ / Toms River East) improved to 4-0 with six innings on the mound and senior Arshwin Asjes (Willemstad, Curacao / Cheverus-ME) pitched a scoreless ninth for his third save. TAMPA, Fla. — Sophomore Chase Anderson struck out six batters and junior Trey Sperring had three RBIs in Oklahoma’s 6-1 victory on Tuesday over South Florida at Red McEwen field. The win improved the Sooners’ overall record to 16-5 while the Bulls fell to 10-7.

In his fourth start of the year, Anderson delivered his best outing as a Sooner, striking out a season-high six batters. Anderson (2-1), who struggled in his last start allowing four runs in 1 1/3 innings against Washington State, limited the Bulls’ offense on Tuesday to one run off five hits and two walks. Northeastern 5 Bowling Green 0

Sophomore Sheldon McDonald threw eight shutout innings of five-hit, nine-strikeout ball and did not walk a batter, as he led the Huskies to a 5-0 win over the Western Michigan Broncos on Wednesday afternoon at IMG Academies in BRadenton, Fla. Florida Gulf Coast 5 South Florida 4

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of South Florida baseball team fell, 5-4, Tuesday night to the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles at Red McEwen Field.

The Bulls’ record drops to 3-4, while the Eagles improve to 8-1.

USF’s offensive attack came in the first two innings after falling behind by two after the top of the first. Redshirt freshman Ryan Lockwood spearheaded the Bulls’ offensive charge with a lead-off walk. Junior counterparts Brandon Smith and Addison Maruszak followed with a walk and a hit by pitch to fill the bases. Lynchburg, Va. – Liberty Director of Athletics Jeff Barber and the Liberty Athletics Department announced today, the department has entered into a contract which will allow lights to be installed at Worthington Stadium.

“The coaching staff and players are extremely excited to be adding lights to Worthington Stadium,” stated Liberty Head Coach Jim Toman. “It will benefit us in many ways.”
