LAFAYETTE – University of Louisiana student-athletes from all sports will be participating in a bus tour to promote literacy and give back to their former elementary schools on November 16 and 17, 2009. While riding on the Ragin’ Cajuns-wrapped Calco bus, student-athletes will be visiting elementary schools in the Acadiana area and reading Jady Regard’s book Born to Be a Ragin’ Cajun to the elementary school students.

Austin Peay signs Nine to NLI’s
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Facing the loss of 11 seniors, including four pitchers, following the upcoming 2010 campaign, Austin Peay State University head baseball coach Gary McClure and his coaching staff had plenty of work to do on the recruiting trail. That work paid off, Wednesday, as nine players signed a letter of intent on the first day of the signing period.

It’s never too early to think about next year… especially when you have a few all-stars already in the fold.
The East Texas Pump Jacks announced today that second baseman Greg Fontenot and outfielder Russell LaFleur have agreed to return to East Texas for the 2010 season. Both players were named to the 2009 TCL All-League team and helped lead the Jacks to a second place finish this summer.

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team returned to the field Monday to begin their second week of fall practice at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.
Practices will be held the remainder of the month of October on Monday-Friday from 2:15-3:45 p.m., with an intrasquad scrimmage to follow. The squad will take Saturdays off and finish up weekly practice on Sundays from 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team will enjoy a home-laden schedule as there are a total of 33 games scheduled for M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field in 2010. Fans will get to watch plenty of action right from the start as the Ragin’ Cajuns will play 15 of their first 17 games at Moore Field.
Tony Robichaux’s squad has mid-week trips to LSU (March 24) and Tulane (April 27) and will play Troy, Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky at Moore Field.

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns baseball head coach Tony Robichaux announced Monday the hiring of Brooks Badeaux as volunteer assistant coach beginning with the 2009-10 season.
Badeaux, a Lafayette native who prepped at Teurlings Catholic High School, spent 10 seasons in professional baseball at the minor league level – including seven seasons in the Triple A ranks – and had two stints as an assistant baseball coach at Lafayette Parish high schools.
After his standout career at Teurlings Catholic, Badeaux played collegiate baseball at Florida State from 1995-98. He was the first freshman shortstop to start opening day and he made three trips to the College World Series with the Seminoles.

NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference recognized its top performers on the baseball field with the announcement of the 2009 All-Conference teams on Tuesday. The student-athletes selected to the first and second teams, as voted on by the 11 head coaches, were honored for their consistent play throughout the season, posting impressive numbers all year.

Crosstown rivals Houston and Rice met with first place on the line and the series did not disappoint with Rice winning two of three in a series that was decided by a total of six runs. Houston took the series opener on Friday night, 7-4 as Jared Ray earned his fourth straight win. On Saturday, Michael Fuda hit a two-out RBI single to break a 5-5 tie and give Rice a 7-5 victory. That win earned the Owls the Silver Glove Trophy, which goes to the winner of the annual five-game series between the teams. Rice made it a 2-1 weekend win and a 4-1 Silver Glove series triumph by holding off a late UH rally to win on Sunday, 6-5. Read the rest of this entry »

The East Texas Pump Jacks today announced the signing of members of the Louisiana-Lafayette baseball team, as well as a pitcher from Centenary College.
Joining the Pump Jacks are infielder Greg Fontenot and pitcher Patrick Holloway, both Ragin’ Cajuns. Also coming to East Texas is Centenary sophomore Stephen Tromblee.
