Entering the week having scored 29 runs in its previous six games, the Canisius College baseball team has scored 33 runs in the last two games as the Golden Griffins defeated Delaware State 21-12 at Soldier Field in Dover, Del. on Tuesday. Down 6-4 heading into the eighth, the Canisius College baseball team scored seven unanswered runs in the final two innings to defeat Penn State 11-6 in University Park, Pa. on Monday.

BLACKSBURG, Va., March 11, 2008 - James Madison University led from start to finish and put five runs on the board in the ninth inning to pull away from Virginia Tech for a 10-3 non-conference baseball win Tuesday afternoon at English Field.

JMU improved to 9-3 overall and won its fifth in a row for the first time since late in the 2006 season. It is the first five-game winning streak of entirely road games since 1995. VT dropped to 7-7 for the season. The Dukes won their third straight game at English Field with the last loss in 1998. MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Sophomore Nick McCully (Lakeland, Fla./Santa Fe Catholic) allowed just a bunt single in the first inning while striking out nine in the Coastal Carolina University baseball team’s (8-1) 6-0 win over George Mason (1-6) March 2 in the final game of the Baseball at the Beach Tournament at BB&T Coastal Field.

MOBILE, Ala. — Scott Green struck out a career-high 10 batters in just five innings of action, as the No. 20 Kentucky baseball team pounded out 13 runs, to take its second game in the 23rd annual Coca-Cola Classic, 13-3 over Fairfield, on Sunday morning at Hank Aaron Field.

Green, a Baseball America preseason All-Southeastern Conference first-team selection, got his first start since getting the nod at Florida on April 1, 2005. The 6-foot-8, 245-pound right-hander opened up his 2008 season in impressive fashion, striking out the side in the top of the first inning. Aside from Fairfield’s three-run second inning, Green was perfect, sitting down 10, now allowing a walk, working five innings, and seven hits. Green nearly single handedly retired the first eight outs of the game, striking out seven and recording one ground out hit back to the mound. Read the rest of this entry »

The Siena Media Relations department has put out a substantial preview of the 2008 squad. The team went through a 21 game losing streak finishing the season with a 12-33 campaign. They return the entire infield which has played together since their freshmen campaign as they enter their final season together. The full article is available here.

EDISON, N.J. – Canisius College is the top choice to win it all during the 2008 MAAC baseball season, according to a preseason poll voted on by the league’s head coaches.

Canisius finished with 71 points in the poll, four points ahead of second-place Manhattan College (67). Marist College placed third with 66 points. Fairfield University and Siena College tied for fourth place (50), followed by Rider University (36), Saint Peter’s College (34), Iona College (19), and Niagara University (12).
