POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Marist head baseball coach Chris Tracz has announced the hiring of John McGorty as assistant baseball coach. McGorty played with the Red Foxes from 2002-03, and still holds the program’s career record for putouts and total chances while ranking second in fielding percentage.

Share The Shore Line Times has an excellent feature on Marist head coach Chris Tracz who will be entering his first season with the Red Foxes. Tracz served as the pitching coach at Army last season where he led them to a second place finish in the Austin (TX) Regional nearly knocking off the National Finalists in Texas. A few weeks after being eliminated from the NCAA Tourney, Tracz was offered the head coaching job at his alma matter Marist where he served as an assistant coach in 2006-2008. He played for the Red Foxes from 2001-2005.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Marist Director of Athletics Tim Murray announced the hiring of Chris Tracz as head baseball coach on Wednesday. Tracz pitched at Marist from 2001-05 and holds the program’s career records for victories, strikeouts, complete games, starts and innings pitched. Share Marist head coach Dennis Healy has resigned as head coach with the Red Foxes. He has accepted the pitching coach position with Wake Forest under new head coach Tom Walter. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Ohio State defeated Marist, 6-4, in an NCAA Tallahassee Regional elimination game behind key hits from Michael Arp and Ryan Dew and flawless work out of the bullpen. TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-Georgia exploded for eight runs in the first inning and rolled to a 24-8 win over Ohio State in game one of the Tallahassee Regional Friday at Dick Howser Stadium.

Edison, N.J. – Canisius College is the team to beat in the 2009 MAAC baseball season, according to a preseason poll voted on by the league’s head coaches.
Canisius finished with 81 points in the poll, while Rider University finished second (66). Manhattan College placed third with 58 points. Marist College and Siena College tied for fourth place (53), followed by Fairfield University (30), Niagara University (29), Saint Peter’s College (19), and Iona College (12). POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist Department of Athletics released the baseball team’s 2009 schedule on Wednesday. The Red Foxes have 54 regular-season games scheduled this season, including 17 home contests at McCann Baseball Field. Share All Things Valley League has put together a Top 15 of the best hitters in the league during the 2008 season. The list is led by Florida International’s Tyler Townsend who had an outstanding summer with Winchester. He finished the season with a .387 average with 12 homers and 36 RBI in only 42 games. He also stole 14 bases in 17 attempts. Brandon Sizemore of College of Charleston comes in the runners up spot. He had a .377 average with 10 homers and 34 RBI. The rest of the top 5 is filled out by Marcus Nidfiffer (Kentucky), Drew Johnson (San Francisco), and Mickey Wiswall (Boston College). POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Marist baseball head coach Dennis Healy has announced the signing of six student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Player of the Week: Nick Campbell (Bryant), Little Falls
Nick Campbell batted .375 (9-for-24) and compiled a .531 on-base percentage in eight games for the Miners last week. Campbell scored a team-high seven runs, drove in five runs, drew eight walks and tallied three extra-base hits. He reached base via hit or walk in seven of eight contests and he had three multi-hit and two multi-walk games. The Raynham, Mass., native had his best game against Amsterdam on July 5. He was 2-for-4 with three RBI, two walks, two stolen bases, one double, one triple and one run scored as Little Falls won, 11-5. Read the rest of this entry »
