Share Patrick Stevens of The Washington Times has put out an excellent article about newly hired Maryland baseball coach Erik Bakich who is seeking to turn around the Terps baseball program. The Maryland program has been a near laughing stock over the past four decades with their last NCAA tourney berth in the 1971 season. Bakich is considered a wizard on the recruiting trail as he turned around the Vanderbilt program during his seven years there from being a doormat into being one of the best teams in the nation. Current Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbin says the following about Bakich’s recruiting ability “"He’s just got a different way about him. He’s a good-looking kid. He’s a chameleon. He can talk to you, can talk to a banker, can talk to a bum on the street and make them all feel good."

Eric Bakich announced today that he hired former Pepperdine pitching coach Sean Kenny. This is an interesting move as Kenny has been on the west coast as members of coaching staffs since the 1997 season with stints at Saint Mary’s, San Diego, and most recently at Pepperdine for the past eleven seasons. He played college ball at Eastern Michigan but a move to the highly competitive ACC and across the country is interesting as he has to continue to have his connections on the East Coast for recruiting. You can check out the full press release from Maryland below.
