The opening weekend of the 2009 Conference USA baseball season is in the books. As a league, C-USA got off to a good start, going 19-10 overall, with six teams posting winning records and another going .500. Texas A&M 8 Wright State 5
Sophomores Caleb Shofner and Brooks Raley had four hits each on Sunday afternoon as No. 1 Texas A&M rallied for an 8-5 win over Wright State and a series sweep before 3,207 fans at Olsen Field.

For the 2009 edition of Memphis baseball to be successful, they must be prepared to take on a list of unique challenges, meanwhile putting a tough 2008 season out of sight and out of mind.
“The main point that we’ve talked about as a staff is to keep this team focused and upbeat with two major hurdles to overcome,” said fifth-year head coach Daron Schoenrock. “One of them is to overcome the demons of last year and what we went through as a young team. Share Some schools will send out a press releases when they have everybody signed and some will send out multiple releases when they have received the LOIs. Today that is what I will be working on. Share Head coach John Cohen announced three more Diamond Dog signees Monday.

Mississippi State has reached into Alabama, Georgia and Texas for its latest signees of the 2008-09 college baseball recruiting campaign.
Joining the initial Bulldog recruiting class of first-year MSU skipper John Cohen are left-handed pitcher Matt Lane of Marietta, Ga. (Pope High School), outfielder Jaron Shepherd of Kilgore, Texas (Kilgore High School/Navarro College) and shortstop Nick Vickerson of Tuscaloosa, Ala. (Hillcrest High School/Florida State/Shelton State).

Share With today being November 12th, We enter the first step for potential college baseball athletes in deciding on where they will play for the next 3-4 years. The next step will be to see where they get drafted in the MLB Draft in June and the final step will be to see if they make it to campus in September.
As We get press releases they will be posted on the site.
Georgia Tech have signed three prep standouts to NLI’s
Two prep All-Americans highlight a list of three high school standouts that have already signed National Letters of Intent to play baseball at Georgia Tech beginning next fall, head coach Danny Hall announced Wednesday.

For the second consecutive game, it was a Tiger pitcher who garnered Player of the Game recognition as junior lefthander Brennon Martin struck out four and allowed two runs in five innings to lead the Gray squad to a 9-5 win over the Blue in Game 2 of the annual Garibaldi’s Series. Kendall Rogers has written a great article about the baseball programs in the state of Tennessee. He ranks all the schools with the Vanderbilt Commodores as the best program but we all know that isn’t a real surprise. Corbin has really developed a solid program in Nashville and keeps bringing in some great recruits.The University of Tennessee comes in at the runners up spot under second year head coach Todd Raleigh. Share Senior Eric Farrell was named the 2008 Blue-Gray Game MVP after going 3-for-4 and coming a home run shy of the cycle.

Freshman Trey Turner highlighted a three-run eighth inning with the eventual game-winning RBI-single that scored Tyler Huelsing and gave the Gray squad the go-ahead run in a 9-7 win. Gray team infielder senior Eric Farrell was the brightest star on either team and was named the 2008 Blue-Gray Game MVP. He was a home run shy of the cycle in a 3-for-4 effort.

Share Going into this weekend the marquee matchup in Conference USA was Houston at Southern Miss as both teams positioned themselves for seeding at the C-USA Tournament and NCAA berths. However, the home-standing Golden Eagles won all three matchups, including a pair of one-run games to move ahead of the Cougars in the league standings. Tulane won two games at Memphis, with the third game being rained out. UCF surprised Rice on Friday night and played them tough the next two days, but the Owls took back-to-back one-run victories. In an expected high-scoring series, Marshall won twice at UAB and East Carolina swept Presbyterian in non-conference action. Read the rest of this entry »
