CHICAGO – The Big Ten Network will nationally televise up to 30 Big Ten baseball games, including the entire Big Ten Baseball Tournament, and 25 Big Ten softball games this spring. Every game will be produced in high definition.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – The home and away team designations for the inaugural BIG EAST-Big TEN Baseball Challenge, hosted by the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Sports Commission, have been determined by the participating conference offices, it was announced today. Share Construction begins on McLane Stadium.

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Construction on the new McLane Baseball Stadium recently began in preparation for a Spring 2009 opening. Construction crews have removed the former bleachers and begun digging the foundations for the new stadium.

Share John Savage and the baseball program have signed nine high school seniors for 2009-10

LOS ANGELES – UCLA head baseball coach John Savage has announced that nine student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent during the early signing period to attend UCLA and play baseball. Aided by assistant coaches Rick Vanderhook and Steve Pearse, the fifth recruiting class under Savage includes six position players, one pitcher and one two-way player.
The Bruins’ recruiting class is highlighted by three AFLAC All-Americans – right-handed pitcher Scott Griggs, infielder David Nick and catcher Max Stassi. The nine talented ballplayers, currently seniors in high school, will enroll at UCLA in the fall of 2009.

Share Eric Roof and the Spartans will play their first game of the 2009 season on Feb. 20, 2009 in Clearwater, Fla.

Head coach Jake Boss announced the Michigan State baseball team’s 2009 schedule this week. The Spartans will kick off their 56-game season Feb. 20 in Clearwater, Fla., with the inaugural Big East/Big Ten Challenge.
“We’ve got a very challenging schedule,” said Boss. “It will be an outstanding start to the season with the Big East/Big Ten Challenge, which we are excited to be a part of.”

Share Chris Roberts went 3-for-5 in the last game of the Green-White World Series.

The White team took the final game of the MSU baseball team’s Green-White World Series, 5-4, on Tuesday (Oct. 28) afternoon at Kobs Field. The White squad used a two-run eighth inning to get the win.
Junior Kurtis Frymier picked up the win for the White team, with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Junior Chris Roberts (3-for-5) and senior A.J. Shindler (3-for-4) led the White team’s effort at the plate and each scored a run. Senior Johnny Lee was 1-for-3 in the game three RBIs.

Share Kyle Corcoran picked up the win in game two of the Green-White World Series.

A three-run sixth and then two more runs in the seventh and eight innings helped the Green team get past the White team, 6-2, in game two of the Michigan State baseball team’s inter-squad scrimmage on Monday (Oct. 27).
Freshman Andrew Carpenter, who went 3-for-4 in game one, returned with another strong performance for the Green team in game two by knocking in three runs in a 2-for-3 performance. Junior Kyle Corcoran earned the win in throwing 2 1/3 innings of relief work, surrendering just one run and striking out two batters. Seth Williams earned the save, striking out four in 2 2/3 innings.

In the late 1950s, Drayton McLane Jr. (’59 master’s in food marketing management) would walk from his Michigan State University campus dorm to class and marvel at the beauty and activities at Old College Field. By the spring of 2009, the McLane family will have literally brought “new life” to its baseball facility through a $4 million commitment to enhance one of the most pristine environments in all of intercollegiate athletics. On Sept. 12, 2008, the MSU Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the naming of McLane Baseball Stadium.
