As the fifth week of SEC play begins, the Arkansas Razorbacks find themselves atop the standings with an impressive 10-2 conference record.  The Vanderbilt Commodores, coming off a two games to one series victory over Florida last weekend, look to give Arkansas a home test.  LSU, tied for second place in the SEC West, travels to Alabama to take on the Crimson Tide.  The Florida Gators sit at 7-5 in league play and just one game behind SEC East leader Georgia, and they will be travelling to Auburn to take on the Tigers.  Georgia, currently 8-4 in SEC play, looks to extend their one game division lead when they visit Kentucky in an Eastern Division showdown.  Read the rest of this entry »

All eyes were on Athens, with the LSU Tigers making the trip to play the Georgia Bulldogs in a battle of top-five teams.  The series was as competitive as everyone thought it would be, and LSU came out on top with a 2-1 series victory to improve to 8-4 in conference play.  Georgia is also now 8-4 in SEC play and leads Florida, who lost two of three at Vanderbilt last weekend, by one game in the standings.  Arkansas is still on top of the SEC West and overall standings with a 10-2 conference mark after taking two of three on the road at South Carolina.  Ole Miss dominated Kentucky at home in a three-game sweep to improve to 8-4 in league play and put themselves in a tie with LSU for second in the SEC West.  Auburn improved their SEC record to 6-6 by taking two of three from Mississippi State in Starksville.  Alabama swept Tennessee to get back to .500 in league play, while the Volunteers fell to a lowly 1-11 in SEC play.

Dave Perno and the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs host LSU in a SEC battle this weekend.

The SEC enters the fourth weekend of conference play this week.  The spotlight series is LSU at Georgia, with both teams ranked in the top five in the nation.  Georgia is coming off a mid-week sweep of Clemson and is looking to top it off with a weekend victory over the fifth ranked Tigers.  LSU is looking for a series victory to catch back up with Arkansas in the SEC West race.  The Hogs sit at a very impressive 8-1 in conference play and travel to South Carolina to take on the Gamecocks.  The Florida Gators, winners of six straight conference games, travel to Vanderbilt to take on the Commadores.  The Kentucky Wildcats travel to Ole Miss to do battle with the Rebels, and Auburn will take its high-powered offense on the road to Mississippi State.  Alabama hosts Tennessee, in what is a must-win series for the Crimson Tide. All the SEC teams were in action on Sunday, and Arkansas and Mississippi State played a doubleheader due to weather conditions on Friday and Saturday in Fayetteville.  Here is the full SEC recap.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.—–Top-ranked Georgia used a four run fifth highlighted by a two-run home run by Joey Lewis to complete a sweep of Tennessee with a 4-3 victory Sunday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
The Bulldogs improved to 24-3 overall and won their seventh straight SEC game to move to 7-2 in league action. The win was the 2,000th in program history. Read the rest of this entry »

Here is your SEC recap for Saturday, March 28.  Arkansas and Mississippi State resumed their suspended game from Friday night, but they were unable to play the regularly scheduled Saturday contest due to field conditions.  All of the other games in the conference proceeded as planned.

Here is your SEC recap for Friday, March 27.  Friday’s game between South Carolina and Kentucky was postponed due to field conditions and will be made up as part of a Saturday doubleheader.  The game between Arkansas and Mississippi State was suspended in the bottom of the 5th inning and will be completed before the start of the second game of the series tomorrow.  The other four conference games were completed as scheduled. Scott Bittle makes his first start of the season for Ole Miss on Sunday against LSU.

Conference play is heating up in the SEC, and this weekend provides an opportunity for some of the teams to start making moves in the conference standings.  The Arkansas Razorbacks put their perfect 6-0 conference record on the line this weekend when Mississippi State invades Baum Stadium.  LSU and Ole Miss find themselves tied for second place in the SEC West, and both top fifteen teams will battle it out in the new Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge.  Scott Bittle will be making his first start of the season and his fourth of his career when he takes the mound for Ole Miss against the Bayou Bengals on Sunday.  Alabama hits the road for a pivotal series at Florida, who is coming off a weekend sweep of Tennessee. The SEC enters the second weekend of conference play this Friday. In somewhat of a surprise start to conference play, the West division flat out dominated the East division. Alabama, in taking two of three from top-ranked Georgia, and Arkansas, sweeping Florida at home, were particularly impressive last weekend. The SEC kicks off conference play this weekend with all twelve teams in action. Georgia, one of the last undefeated teams left standing, travels to Alabama to take on the Crimson Tide. The Florida Gators hit the road to take on Arkansas, a series of two nationally ranked teams. Kentucky makes the trek south to take on the top ten LSU Tigers in the new Alex Box Stadium. South Carolina travels to Starskville to do battle with Mississippi State. I reported yesterday that Mississippi State was looking to get a forfeit win against Nicholls State on Sunday after a disagreement between the two schools on whether or not the game was canceled. I ran across a random story yesterday about the Nicholls State and Mississippi State game that was set to take place on Sunday between the two schools. The game was never played due to the wintry weather which blanketed the southern part of the country. The Nicholls State Media Relations department wrote up a recap about the game where they called it a cancellation which is normal in this situation. Read the rest of this entry »
