AndrewOliver The NCAA is currently looking into cracking down on the Advisers/Agents in the MLB Draft negotiations. Former ASU star Dustin Pedroia

I recently posted an article from the Wall Street Journal which looked at the best baseball schools in the country. (Click here if you missed it.) One of our readers sent me the following letter about Arizona State not being included. Read the rest of this entry »

ryanbraunmiamiThe Wall Street Journal has an excellent article about which schools are the most successful in developing pro prospects. One example of this is 1999 when over half of the first round picks have not been in the MLB while Albert Pujols has become the most feared hitter after being picked with the 402nd selection in that same draft. Our good friends over at Codball.com are reporting that the CCBL All-Star Game will be held at Fenway Park on July 23rd. This is an interesting move by The Cape Cod League as the All-Star game is always the top attended event on the Cape and the city of Boston very rarely supports college sports other then hockey. The New York Times has a great article about Clay Zavada’s journey through the minor leagues. He was selected in the 30th round in 2006 where he received a $1,000 bonus which was barely enough to cover his deposit on his apartment. After the 2006 summer, Clay’s father died leaving the families property to him. He ended up losing touch with the Arizona Diamondbacks who subsequently dropped his contract. He ended up finishing up his degree in the spring of 2008 and with some encouragement from a friend went to an open tryout for the independent league member Southern Illinois Miners. His performance ended up getting him a second chance with the Diamondbacks who ended up signing him in June. Read the rest of this entry »
