The ACC Tourney starts up tomorrow with the league split into two pools with four teams in each one. Pool A has Miami (FL), Clemson, NC State, and Ga Tech in it while Pool B has FSU, Wake Forest, UNC, and Virginia. I believe that Miami (FL) will meet UNC in the Finals. Read the rest of this entry »

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Miami, the top seed in this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Championship, led all schools with eight selections on the 2008 All-ACC Baseball Team and also claimed a pair of individual superlatives, as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford. CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Freshman left-handed pitcher Chris Hernandez won for the 10th time with a seven-strikeout performance in 7 2/3 innings and junior first baseman Yonder Alonso hit his second career grand slam - which also was the second one against a team ranked No. 2 - as No. 1 Miami (43-6, 23-3 ACC) cruised to a 12-2 win over the second-ranked Tar Heels (43-10, 20-7 ACC) Thursday night to win the Atlantic Coast Conference Coastal Division. BLACKSBURG, Va. - Junior centerfielder Blake Tekotte tied a school record with three home runs and Miami hit five home runs in a game for the third time this season as the No. 1 ranked Hurricanes (40-5, 21-2 ACC) won its 40th game with a 12-4 win over Virginia Tech (20-29, 4-21 ACC) Friday evening at English Field. Miami (FL) at Virginia Tech
The Miami Hurricanes head north to Blacksburg VA to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies in a battle between the First place team and the worst team in the conference. The Hurricanes have an overall record of 39-5 and 20-2 in the tough ACC. The Hokies have a record of 20-28 and 4-20 in the ACC. The Hurricanes have one of the most potent lineups in the entire led by Yonder Alonso and Jemile Weeks. Alonso has a batting average of .384 with 14 homers and 50 RBI in 44 games. He has an on-base percentage of .550. Jemile Weeks leads the team with a .390 average with 16 stolen bases. Chris Hernandez has been perfect in his first collegiate season as he has a 8-0 record with a 2.70 ERA. ATLANTA - Derek Dietrich collected three hits and drove in five runs to lead Georgia Tech (33-14) to an 11-4 victory over No. 15 Coastal Carolina (38-11) Sunday afternoon at Russ Chandler Stadium. The win helped Tech to its second-straight weekend series victory after defeating Wake Forest in two of three games a week ago.
Dietrich drove in runs in the first, fifth, sixth and eighth innings and hit his 14th home run of the season as the Yellow Jackets pushed their streak to 15-consecutive games with a home run. Dietrich is the only freshman in the Atlantic Coast Conference with more than 10 home runs this season and leads all freshmen while standing second in the league with 56 RBI on the year.
