DALLAS - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 11th year with its 2008 weekly surveys. Polls will be circulated from Feb. 25-June 30 following the NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb.
The poll voters come from 30 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation. This week’s poll has representation by 11 different conferences among the 297 baseball-playing schools in the 2008 NCAA Division I ranks, and 16 total leagues have had teams in the Top 30 in ’08. Slugging first baseman Tim McMenamin of Gwynedd-Mercy College and ace right-hander Brent Kulavic of Illinois Wesleyan University have been named the NCAA Division III National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 28-May 4, the ninth and final awards of the season, as chosen by members of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. DALLAS - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending May 4, today. Jacksonville State senior outfielder Clay Whittemore was named National Hitter of the Week, while Texas junior right-hander Kenn Kasparek was named National Pitcher of the Week. It was a week of “R & R” as catcher J.D. Rotzoll of Concordia University (Ill.) and southpaw Josh Roiger of Hamline University earned the NCAA Division III National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards for the week of April 21-27, 2008, the eighth of the season, as chosen by members of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. DALLAS — The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, working in conjunction with the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce, has released the watch list of 50 candidates for the Dick Howser Trophy, given to the top player in collegiate baseball.
The membership of the NCBWA will choose the Dick Howser Trophy based on three rounds of voting. The 2008 winner will be announced at the College World Series in Omaha on Saturday, June 14, at 10:00 a.m. CDT. Read the rest of this entry »

STARKVILLE, Miss. (NCBWA) - Forty-five relief pitchers are included on the midseason watch list for the fourth annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, the association announced Thursday. The award is given to the top relief pitcher in Division I college baseball.
The midseason watch list includes four players with double-figure saves totals through April 15, paced by NCAA saves leader Tyler Conn of Southern Miss. The senior lefty has 12 saves, a win and 31 strikeouts in 16 relief appearances and is one of three hurlers on the watch list who have not yielded an earned run in 2008. Read the rest of this entry »
