IRVING, Texas—The Big 12 Conference has named 71 student-athletes to the 2009 Academic All-Big 12 Baseball Team, the league office announced.
Among those honored, senior Joe Kent from Oklahoma State was nominated with a 4.00 grade point average.

AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 8 Texas Longhorns took advantage defensive lapses by the No. 14 Texas A&M Aggies in the first inning to score five runs and hung on for a 5-4 win in the rubber match of the State Farm Lone Star Showdown at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Sunday afternoon.
The UT victory coupled with a loss by Oklahoma in the Bedlam Series against Oklahoma State gave the Horns their fifth Big 12 regular-season title and the third in the last four years.

The Lone Star Showdown this weekend between Texas and Texas A&M will heavily impact the Big 12 conference race. Texas currently leads Kansas State and rival Texas A&M by one game in the conference standings. The two teams will be playing a split series, with the Friday game in College Station and the two remaining games in Austin. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State face off in the Bedlam Series, with Friday’s game to be played at Driller’s Stadium in Tulsa and the other two games at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 8 Texas Longhorns put on their hitting shoes and posted a 19-11 win over the No. 17 Baylor Bears in Big 12 Conference baseball action Saturday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark.
The game featured season-highs for hits (16), runs (19), total bases (27) and home runs (3) as the Longhorns moved to 32-11-1 on the season and 14-8-1 in Big 12 Conference play. The win put the Horns back in first place in the league standings.

AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 8 Texas Longhorns took advantage of a season-high seven errors by the No. 17 Baylor Bears to post a 12-4 win in Big 12 Conference baseball action Friday evening at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Texas (31-11-1, 13-8-1 Big 12) equaled a season-high with 12 runs, including six unearned, and logged 13 hits on the evening.

With only 3 weeks remaining until the Big 12 Conference Tournament in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, many teams are fighting for their seeds, rather than their chance to play. With 7 of 10 teams at or above .500 in conference play, the only battle for a spot is between 9-12 Texas Tech and 6-11 Oklahoma State. Oklahoma State, ranked 26th by the NCBWA, plays host to surprise-team Kansas State, while Texas Tech is idle while the school tends to final exams. AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 8 Texas Longhorns demonstrated their offensive firepower with a season-high runs total to defeat the Texas State Bobcats, 12-2, in non-conference baseball action Tuesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk field.
The Longhorns were led offensively by freshman Kevin Lusson who went 4-for-4 and with a walk on the night and scored five runs. Lusson had two doubles and two RBI. All of these numbers were career-highs for the Austin native.

AUSTIN, Texas – Drew Biery’s two-run single in the top of the eighth gave Kansas State a 6-5 lead, but Texas escaped a weekend sweep by plating the tying run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth as the 23rd-ranked Wildcats and second-ranked Longhorns ended Sunday’s game tied 6-6 due to the Big 12 travel rule.

This is the Big 12 recap for Saturday , April 24th. Kansas State took the opener from Texas as AJ Morris threw a complete game. In the Game Texas had Morris on the rope early in the contest but could not put the finishing touches on AJ. AJ went the distance but, he threw 139 pitches. In other action Oklahoma took the opener from Baylor in Waco, 4-2. Oklahoma State 4 Texas A&M 1, Nebraska 11 Kansas 4, and Missouri 18 Texas Tech 7.
