SERIES OF THE WEEK: SAN JOSE STATE AT FRESNO STATE (Joe Beiden Field)
Why It’s Important: San Jose State at 12-11 in conference play still has an outside shot at the conference title and if they are able to go into Fresno and win the series they would come out either tied or one game ahead of Fresno State in the standings. Fresno State, the preseason pick to win the WAC has stumbled in it’s last two series, losing three of four to second place Nevada and splitting a series with sixth place New Mexico State at home but still remain atop the standings. Sacramento State at Hawai’i
The Warriors took three of four from the visiting Hornets winning game one on Friday night 8-3 then splitting a pair on Saturday, 3-1 and 7-3 before rallying in the ninth for a 9-8 victory. The series victory by Hawai’i muddles the race in the middle of the league as there are four teams (San Jose State, Hawai’i, Sacramento State, New Mexico State) within two games of each other in the loss column.
The Warriors are now 16-12 in conference play and 24-25 overall while the Hornets fall to 11-12 in conference play and 20-27 overall.
