CHARLESTON, S.C. - First-year Head Coach Stuart Lake has completed his staff for the 2009 baseball season by adding student assistant, Anthony Hayes, it was announced Wednesday. Hayes, who will coach the outfielders, help with the hitters and act as the first base coach, will be the third coach on the staff to return to his alma mater, joining former CSU battery mates Lake and pitching coach Stan Kowalski.

LAS VEGAS - UNLV baseball head coach Buddy Gouldsmith has announced that he has hired Jeff Prieto to fill out his 2009 staff as an assistant coach and he will oversee the infielders while working with the hitters, base runners and short game.  Former Jayhawk Ritchie Price was named the head coach at South Dakota State. At age 24, he will be the youngest head coach in NCAA Division I baseball.

Former Jayhawk Ritchie Price was named the head coach at South Dakota State. At age 24, he will be the youngest head coach in NCAA Division I baseball.
As the fall practice season winds down for the Kansas baseball team, several members of the Jayhawk family are going through the same rigors in other parts of the country. During the off-season three former Jayhawk players/coaches were promoted in the coaching ranks at other schools.

The Register-Guard has put out a very good article looking into the salary and benefits in George Horton’s contract. Horton is the former Cal-State Fullerton coach who left the Titans program to restart the University of Oregon program. He will be paid $450,000 yearly with several bonus clauses included for on the field performance and academic performance by the squad. If Horton is fired before the expiration of his contract, he will receive $600,000 per season left. Read the rest of this entry »

 former CSU pitcher Stan Kowalski to the staff for the 2009 season

Charleston Southern Head Baseball Coach Stuart Lake has announced the addition of former CSU pitcher Stan Kowalski to the staff for the 2009 season. Kowalski will serve as the pitching coach for CSU.
Kowalski knows all about CSU baseball, having played for the Bucs from 1991-95 as a pitcher. Kowalski left the program as the school’s all-time winningest pitcher with 23 career victories and held the record until 2004 when R.J, Swindle surpassed the mark.

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns head baseball coach Tony Robichaux announced Wednesday the hiring of Mike Trahan as an assistant coach. His hiring is pending approval by the University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors.
He replaces John Szefc, who took a similar position at Kansas.
Trahan spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at ULM. His time with the Warhawks hitters and infielders produced immediate results.

 Pickler in action at Tennessee
Jeff Pickler was added to the Arizona coaching staff on Monday morning coming over to the Wildcats after being with the Arizona Diamondbacks as an advanced scout and consultant since 2006. He spent eight seasons in the minor leagues getting time in the Milwaukee Brewers, Texas Rangers, and Colorado Rockies systems after a collegiate career at Cypress (CA) College and Tennessee.  Former Lion Jeff Walker returns to LMU as an assistant coach.

Former Lion Jeff Walker, who was an All-WCC selection for LMU in 2000, will return to the bluff for his first season as an assistant coach under head coach Jason Gill, it was announced earlier this week. Coach Walker will work primarily with the outfielders and hitters, as well as assist in strength and conditioning and recruiting.
Prior to coming to Loyola Marymount, Walker spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Ohlone College in Fremont, Calif. During this time, Ohlone qualified for the State Playoffs, led the state in stolen bases, and was one of the best hitting teams in the California. Before going to Ohlone, Walker spent five years serving as both the Athletics Director and head varsity baseball coach at Saratoga High School in Saratoga, Calif. In just his first year as head coach, Walker guided Saratoga, which had finished the previous season in last place after winning just six games all year, to the CIF/Central Coast Section Playoffs.

PHILADELPHIA - Greg Lemon, a former Division III All-American and currently a professional baseball player, has been named an assistant baseball coach at Temple, head coach Rob Valli announced today. Lemon, who recently finished his second season with the St. George Roadrunners of the Golden Baseball League, spent last spring as an assistant coach at Georgetown. He will work specifically with the infielders and coach first base at TU.

 Ryan Kelley was named head baseball coach at WSU.

Ryan Kelley has been named the ninth head coach in the 68-year history of the Wayne State University baseball program. The announcement was made today by WSU Director of Athletics Rob Fournier.
“I look forward to Ryan building on our successes in baseball,” noted Fournier. “The committee considered some outstanding candidates and there is no doubt that our program has risen in stature. In the end, Ryan’s familiarity with our system, his strong work habits and active role in building our program the last six years, was a significant factor. I look forward to working with him to move our baseball team into an elite echelon.”

John Pawlowski who is entering his first season in charge of the Auburn Tigers after nine successful seasons with the College of Charleston. He went 338-192-1 in his nine seasons in charge of the Cougars bringing them to the NCAA Tournament for the first three times in school history with a Super Regional appearance in 2006.
