UC Irvine Wins Series Over
New Mexico With 11-6 Decision
ALBUQUERQUE, NMDillon Bell and Josh Tavelli combined for six RBI to lead UC Irvine to a series win over New Mexico with an 11-6 decision Saturday at Isotopes Park. Centerfielder Ollie Linton recorded a stolen base to become UCI’s single-season record holder with 29 as the Anteaters improved to 27-10 overall.

New Mexico (27-18) took an early 2-0 lead on Ian Hollick’s solo home run in the first and an RBI single by Scott Gracey in the second. However, the Anteaters tied the game in the top of the third on Linton’s run-scoring single to plate Bell, who had led off the inning with a double, and a sacrifice fly by Eric Deragisch.

Eric Deragisch Clutch as No. 11 UC Irvine Defeats New Mexico 5-3
ALBUQUERQUE, NM. — Eric Deragisch drove in the game-tying and game-winning runs to lead No. 11 UC Irvine past New Mexico, 5-3, Friday at Isotope Park. The win lifted the Anteaters to 26-10 overall while the Lobos fell to 27-18 on the season.

Deragisch was 3 for 4 with two runs batted in while Francis Larson also drove in a pair of runs on 1 for 4 hitting. Ollie Linton paced the team, going 4 for 5 with three runs scored while Ben Orloff continued his hot hitting, batting 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored.

Wortham Twirls Five-Hit Shutout
USAFA, Colo. (April 25, 2008)–Jake Wortham twirled a five-hit shutout Friday, going the distance in BYU’s 22-0 victory with howling winds at the Air Force Academy.

Wortham evened his record at 3-3, retiring 14 straight before surrendering a double in the ninth inning as the Cougars snapped a five-game losing streak. The junior southpaw from Allen, Texas also recorded nine strikeouts, no walks and retired the side in order in the third, fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings.

The TCU Horned Frogs withstood a furious two-out rally by No. 30 Baylor Tuesday night to hang for the 4-3 victory at Baylor Ballpark. The victory is the sixth straight for the Horned Frogs and helps them improve to 11-0 in midweek contests this season. Clint Arnold was 4-for-5 at the plate, while Chris Ellington tallied two RBIs. Paul Gerrish was outstanding in relief to earn the victory. (Full Story)

Pat Colwell’s two-out single in the bottom of the 11th inning drove home the winning run as San Diego State defeated New Mexico, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Colwell’s heroics made a winner of junior right-hander James McLaughlin (3-0), who had just come on in the top of the inning in relief of senior starter Shane Kaufman, who had pitched brilliantly over the first 10 frames. The hit was the fifth of the day for Colwell whose safeties included a double and four singles plus a sac bunt, run scored and the all-important RBI to end the contest.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The TCU Horned Frogs have been selected to win their third straight regular season Mountain West Conference baseball championship in 2008. In a vote of the seven MWC head coaches and a select media panel, the Horned Frogs received six of a possible nine first-place votes and 60 points, while BYU (three first-place votes) received 52 points to finish second in the poll. New Mexico has signed its third of the four baseball playing brothers of Kansas. The Carlson klan of Topeka has pretty solid genes. Three brothers, including former stud Chris Carlson, signed with New Mexico. One is at Missouri State.
