Hempstead, NY- Hofstra scored three or more runs in the first three innings during which Matt Kougasian had four RBI and Nick Panzarella had three RBI as the Pride defeated Coppin State, 12-3, Wednesday afternoon. With the victory the Pride improve to 8-16 while the Eagles fall to 3-23.
Hofstra jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning. After the first three runners reached base for the Pride, Kougasian drove a run home with a sacrifice fly for the first run. TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University of Alabama senior first baseman Matt Bentley slammed two home runs, including a solo blast in the fifth inning that gave the Crimson Tide the lead for good, in a 9-5 win over the Samford Bulldogs Wednesday night at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
Bentley went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in leading the Crimson Tide to its sixth straight win. Bentley gave the Tide the lead for good with a two-out, solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning off losing pitcher Michael Jarry. MACON, Ga. – Stetson is the overwhelming favorite to repeat as Atlantic Sun Conference baseball champion in 2008 in the league’s preseason poll. The Hatters garnered eight of 12 first place votes in the poll conducted among the conference’s head coaches. Hatter outfielder Justin Bass and Lipscomb catcher Caleb Joseph split preseason Player of the Year honors, while Lipscomb’s Rex Brothers claimed Pitcher of the Year honors. Share The North Florida Ospreys have put out a tentative 2008 schedule. They will host SEC power Mississippi State on opening night February 22nd which starts a three game set. They will open up Atlantic Sun play the next weekend when they head down to Florida Gulf Coast College for a three game set. The rest of the schedule is available here.

Brandon Guyer went 3-4 with four RBIs, four runs scored, and a grand slam to lead the Cavaliers to a 17-6 thumping of George Mason. David Adams and John Scaglione were the other Cavs with three hits on the day.

The Clemson Tigers without head coach Jack Leggett pounded out 21 hits with twelve different players picking up at least one hit to pound Gardner-Webb 14-2. Ben Paulsen went 5-5 with a homer and six RBI to lead the Tiger offense.

The Indiana Hoosiers dropped a 16 inning affair with North Florida on Tuesday by a score of 10-9. North Florida’s Jon Dandridge drove home Jimmy Glanville with one out in the 16th to pick up the win.

The Ohio State Buckeyes knocked off North Florida 3-2 in 11 innings on Friday evening. The Buckeyes had the potential winning runs thrown out at the plate in the top of the ninth and tenth innings but were able to break through in the 11th inning. Eric Fryer hit a perfect swinging bunt in the 11th inning with the bases loaded to drive home Ryan Dew from third base with the winning run. Ohio State will be back in action tomorrow at 4pm when they face Western Michigan while North Florida will face off with Uconn at 1pm.
