OTTAWA - Terry McKaig, Team Leader and Head Coach of Team Canada’s (CIS) World University Baseball Games team is pleased to announce the 22 student-athletes that will be participating in the 4th World University Baseball Games Tournament. The Canadian team is made up of student-athletes who participated in the CIS (OUA), NAIA and NCAA.
“I feel very confident that we will make a run for the medal podium with the group of talented student-athletes that we were able to assemble in such a short time,” said McKaig. While the breakdown of student-athletes is mostly based in the USA, six members of the University of British Columbia’s squad, who play in the NAIA, and two student-athletes from the OUA (Ontario) one from the University of Guelph and the University of Waterloo will represent Canadian based schools. UVA 5 UNC 4 (7 innings/Rain)
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Jeremy Farrell’s two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning provided the No. 24 Virginia baseball team with the go-ahead runs in a 5-4 win over No. 2 North Carolina Sunday in a rain-shortened game at Davenport Field. JOHNSON CITY, Tenn., May 6, 2008 – Freshman Turner Phelps (Roanoke, Va./Lord Botetourt) pitched seven innings of shutout relief and James Madison University overcame an early four run deficit for an 8-4 non-conference baseball victory over East Tennessee State University on Tuesday night at Cardinal Park.
JMU improved to 31-13 and salvaged a win on its three-game road swing after dropping a pair at Radford. The Dukes improved to 4-1 in night games this season. ETSU fell to 18-32 on the season. Read the rest of this entry »

Game 1: Northeastern 8 Hofstra 5
Mike Lyon hit a career-high three home runs and drove in six runs, leading the Huskies to an 8-5 win against Hofstra in game one of a doubleheader at Friedman Diamond Saturday afternoon. Lyon’s third homer of the game gave the Huskies the walk-off win in what was a seven-inning contest.
Other than Lyon, Mike Tamsin and David Gustafson helped pace the Husky offense. Tamsin went 3-4 and scored a run, while Gustafson finished 2-3 with an RBI-double. Tony DiCesare also chipped in with an RBI-double to complete the Husky offensive attack. Read the rest of this entry »

NORFOLK, VA–Chris Keenan (Chesapeake, VA.) and Anthony Shawler (Chesapeake, Va.) both knocked in three runs and Ryan Bergh (Reddick, FL.) pitched a complete game as Old Dominion (21-21/12-10) defeated Northeastern (16-20-1/ 8-13-1), 7-3 Sunday afternoon. The Monarchs sweep the three-game CAA series.

Norfolk, Va. - Junior right-hander Dan Hudson struck out 11 in just over seven innings of work and the Monarchs of Old Dominion scored 13 runs on 16 hits to shutout the Huskies of Northeastern 13-0 at Bud Metheny Baseball Complex Saturday afternoon. Nine of the Monarchs 16 hits went for extra bases, including two doubles, three triples and four home runs.
With the game scoreless heading into the bottom of the fifth, ODU shortstop Gerard Hall took it upon himself to get the Monarchs on the board. Hall opened the inning with a single to right and promptly stole second and third base. Northeastern starter Les Williams struck out the next two Monarch batters, but with Williams pitching from the windup and with right-handed batter Jimmy Miles in the box, Hall stole home sliding up under the tag of NU catcher Frank Pesanello. NORFOLK, VA–Old Dominion University (19-21/10-10) junior righthander Anthony Shawler (Oscar Smith HS) tossed a complete game two-hit shutout and struckout a school record tying 18 batters as the Monarchs defeated Northeastern, 10-0 Friday night.
The 18 strikeouts ties him for the school mark originally set on April 15, 2006 by Jason Godin against the same Northeastern Huskies. Justin Verlander (’04) now with the Detroit Tigers fanned 17 twice during his Monarch career. Read the rest of this entry »

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Senior Jason Appel tied his career-high with four hits and senior Daniel Hargrave knocked in four runs as No. 29 UNC Wilmington fought through three weather delays to win its Colonial Athletic Association baseball series against Delaware with a 17-7 win on Sunday at Bob Hannah Stadium.

BOSTON, Mass. - For the first time since 2000, UMass (11-14) won the Beanpot Championship by defeating the Boston College Eagles (18-18), 4-3, behind a fantastic pitching performance from Mike DiCato (Winthrop, Mass.) on Tuesday afternoon at Fenway Park. DiCato took a no-hitter into the ninth inning before allowing a bloop single with no outs. The Eagles looked to make a comeback in the bottom of the ninth, but Mitchell Eilenberg (Brooklyn, N.Y.) shut down the Eagle’s offense by retiring the final two batters of the game for his second save of the season. BC’s starter, Kevin Moran, struggled in the top of the first, allowing three runs to give UMass a 3-0 lead. SPOKANE, Wash. (http://www.gozags.com April 14, 2008) Seven Gonzaga University batters recorded multiple hits as the Bulldogs exploded for 18 hits to down visiting University of Washington 15-3 Monday night at Patterson Baseball Complex and Washington Trust Field in Spokane. Jason Chatwood and Mark Castellitto led the brigade, recording three hits a piece.
Gonzaga (19-16, 2-6 WCC) starter Reedy Berg (2-2) earned the victory as the freshman allowed three runs on six his while striking out eight over 6.0 innings pitched. Reliever Andrew Danner earned his first career save as the rookie pitched 3.0 scoreless innings to end the game. CORAL GABLES, FL - Florida Atlantic right-hander Michael Obradovich struck out a season-best seven batters, allowing just three runs in eight outstanding innings and All-America candidate William Block hit two home runs in the Owls’ 6-3 win over No. 1 Miami.

George Mason 5 Towson 4
Towson, Md. - The George Mason baseball team snapped a four-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon when the Patriots scored five runs in the first three innings and then held off Towson over the final six as Mason beat the Tigers, 5-4.
Mason scored in the first when Chris Henderson and Justin Bour hit two-out singles and Scott Krieger brought home Henderson with a single to left.
