WACO, Texas — Seventh-ranked Baylor sent 15 batters to the plate in an 11-run first inning and coasted to a 14-1, seven-inning victory over Prairie View A&M in midweek action Wednesday night at Baylor Ballpark. Baylor (18-7) improved to 5-0 all-time against Prairie View A&M (15-14) with the win.

Share Colorado Sports Examiner writer Mark Knudson recently put together an article about College Baseball in the state of Colorado. Knudson played 12 years of professional baseball including being the first Colorado resident to play for the Rockies. He talks about how the Northern Colardo program used to be a powerhouse in the past with 10 College World Series appearances. They ended up dropping the program down to the Division 2 level but recently brought the program back up to the Division 1 level in 2004. They have played as an independent since then but it was recently announced that Northern Colorado will join the Great Western Conference starting in the 2010 season. He also talks about Colorado and Colorado State dropping their programs in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Read the rest of this entry »

I will be providing the recaps of the games from the BIG 12 this season along with the press releases from those Schools.
No. 15 Bears Ware Out Purdue 2-1 Landis Ware’s two-run home run provided the offense, and Kendal Volz struck out 10 as No. 15 Baylor defeated Purdue 2-1 in Friday night’s 2008 season opener at Baylor Ballpark. This was the first-ever meeting between the Bears (1-0) and the Boilermakers (0-1) in baseball. It came in the Bears’ 300th game at Baylor Ballpark.
Ware, who earned the start at second base only because 2007 Freshman All-American Raynor Campbell is out with an injury, made good use of the opportunity, going 2-for-3 on the night. He doubled down the right-field line in his first at bat to lead off the third inning, but it was his seventh-inning at bat that decided the game. Paul Miles drew a two-out walk and stole second. On the next pitch, Ware turned on an inside fastball for the game-deciding home run.

Share The Air Force Academy has posted the 2008 schedule on their website. The Academy will open the season in the Service Academies Spring Classic with Navy and Memphis joining them from February 22nd-24th. They will be making a trip to Mississippi State for a three game set at the end of February. The Falcons will also take part in the Palm Beach Papa John’s Challenge in Palm Beach, FL but the participants are not listed yet. The most interesting thing on the schedule is on April 18th-20th when they have games listed against UNC or UVSC in Colorado Springs. I wonder if this means that North Carolina is planning on heading to Air Force this year or is this a different UNC as in Northern Colorado. I suspect that it is Northern Colorado but the Falcons fans can hope that it is the two time CWS finalist North Carolina. The full schedule is available here.
