The University of Central Arkansas Bears scored 10 unanswered runs Friday night to take a 10-2 victory over the McNeese State Cowboys in Southland Conference action at UCA Field.

TUSCALOOSA - Mitch Gaspard is expected to rejoin the University of Alabama baseball coaching staff as its top assistant, two sources said Monday.
Gaspard could resign his post as the head coach of Northwestern State University, where he has been since the 2002 season, as early as today.
Simultaneous announcements from Alabama and Northwestern State will come when the move is official, likely Wednesday.

In the final day of action at the Coca-Cola Southern Miss Baseball Classic both Southern Mississippi and Southern Illinois were able to pick up victories. Southern Miss took care of business against Northwestern State by a score of 10-7. They were led by a solid hitting attack from Brian Dozier who went 3-4 at the plate. Southern Illinois won the game in the 13th behind RBI hits by Tyler Choate and Micheal Finigan. Louisville tried to make a comeback in the bottom of the 13th but were unable to produce the two runs needed.

Southern Mississippi and Louisville played an absolute classic on Saturday which ended up with both benches clearing and punches thrown by some players. Southern Mississippi rallied to score four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the ballgame on a 2 out and two strike single by Micheal Ewing. After the runs scored, A Brawl broke out on the field according to reports but I would like to know if any action will be taken against any players.

The Southern Illinois Salukis took out the Northwestern State Demons on Saturday by a score of 3-2. Cody Adams pitched 7.2 innings while only letting up the two runs to pick up the victory.

The Southern Miss Golden Eagles won their opener on Friday night over the Southern Illinois Salukis by a score of 9-0. Ryan Belanger pitched a solid seven innings letting up only four hits and a walk with seven strikeouts to pick up the victory. Southern Miss was led on offense by Trey Sutton who had two hits and three RBI’s in the victory.

Louisville also picked up a victory on Friday with a 4-0 victory over Northwestern State. Zack Pitts was wonderful on the mound for the Cardinals by pitching five shutout innings. Freshman Chris Dominguez hit a two run homer in the ninth inning to extend the lead to 3-0 and the Cardinals would tack on another run in the inning to set up the final scoreline.

The University of Southern Mississippi will be hosting the Coca-Cola Classic Tournament this weekend with Louisville, Northwestern State, and Southern Illinois. Friday’s games are Louisville under new head coach Dan McDonnell facing off against Northwestern State at noon. Southern Illinois will face Southern Miss at 4pm on the opening day. Saturday’s match-ups will be Southern Illinois facing Louisville and Southern Miss facing Northwestern State. The final day of the tourney will be Northwestern State and Southern Illinois doing battle then the Cardinals and Eagles will end the tournament.
