(KANNAPOLIS, N.C.) – Drew Pomeranz (Ole Miss) broke the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) record for strikeouts in a game with 17 and pitched six solid innings to lead the National Team to a 15-1 victory at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in the opening game of a four-game friendship series against Guatemala. (CARY, N.C.) – USA Baseball announced Wednesday night the 22 members of its 2009 National Team (Collegiate). The roster is headlined by shortstop and 2008 National Team member Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton; Capey, Puerto Rico), and consists of five outfielders, six infielders, 10 pitchers, and one utility player. usa-baseball-logo(CARY, N.C.) – Bryce Brentz (Middle Tennessee State) went 3-3 with a solo home run and the Blue Team picked up a 3-1 win over the Red Team at the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) Trials at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.

Brentz wasted little time as he kicked off the scoring in the top of the second inning with a 390 foot home run to left centerfield on Red Team starter Drew Pomeranz (Mississippi) for the early 1-0 lead. Read the rest of this entry »

OXFORD, Miss. – The Virginia baseball team captured its first berth in the College World Series after earning a 5-1 win over Ole Miss Sunday in front of 10,110 spectators at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field in the NCAA Oxford Super Regional. OXFORD, Miss. – Western Kentucky University (41-19) jumped on the Missouri Tigers (35-27) early for the second time in three days to post an 11-6 victory on Sunday afternoon at Oxford-University Stadium and advance to the program’s first NCAA Regional Championship round appearance in 29 years. The third-seeded Hilltoppers won their second game in three tries in the NCAA Oxford Regional, eliminating the Tigers, and will now face top-seeded and eighth-ranked Ole Miss at 5:00 PM.
