ARKADELPHIA – Ouachita Baptist University head baseball coach Chris Moddelmog announced the signing of six student-athletes to their National Letter of Intents to begin at Ouachita Baptist in the fall of 2009.
“We have put together a very good mix of freshmen and junior college players during the early signing period,” Moddelmog said. “Coach (Luke) Howard and (Dan) Skirka have done a great job of identifying players who fit our style of play on and off the field.

ARKADELPHIA – Coming off the heels of an NCAA Division II National Runner-ups, Ouachita Baptist University baseball coach Chris Moddelmog announced the release of the upcoming 2009 schedule.
The Tigers, who set a school-record 51 wins last season and won the South Central Regional Baseball Championship for the first time in school history, will play at the confines of Rab Rodgers Field 28 times.

ARKADELPHIA – Natural State Baseball announced its 2008 All-Arkansas Collegiate Team and Awards with Ouachita Baptist earning several top honors, including being named Team of the Year.
The Tigers, who went 51-16 and lost in the NCAA Division II College World Series National Championship Game to Mount Olive, were selected Team of the Year over Division I programs Central Arkansas, Arkansas, Arkansas State and UALR.

ARKADELPHIA – Ouachita Baptist University head baseball coach Chris Moddelmog announced Monday the hiring of Luke Howard.
Howard will assume the role of pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Ouachita Baptist. He comes to OBU after a one year stint at Murray State University, a Division I school in the Ohio Valley Conference.
“Luke will bring a lot of energy and excitement to our program. He is a good recruiter and a tireless worker on and off the field. I look forward to him and his wife Anne joining the OBU baseball family,” Moddelmog said.

ARKADELPHIA – Ouachita Baptist Director of Athletics David Sharp announced Friday the hiring of new Tiger baseball coach Chris Moddelmog from Fort Scott Community College.
Moddelmog succeeds Scott Norwood, who took the head coaching position at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.
“I am very excited to announce that we have hired Chris to be our head baseball coach,” Sharp said. “He brings a very strong background in recruiting to our position. He will also bring a very aggressive style in the way he coaches the game. Also he has a good record of recruiting quality young men with the aspiration to attain a college degree. Josh Harrison’s two-run single and Dylan Holton’s three-run double gave Mount Olive a five-run lead in the first inning and Casey Hodges took a shutout into the eighth inning as the Trojans captured their first-ever NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP with a 6-2 win over Ouachita Baptist in the championship game of the 2008 NCAA Division II BAseball National Finals Saturday at Sauget, Ill. SAUGET, ILL. - No. 4 ranked Ouachita Baptist edged No. 2 ranked Sonoma State to advance to Saturday’s national championship game in the “if necessary” game of the NCAA Division II Championships Friday afternoon at GCS Ballpark.

Mount Olive Advances to National Championship
SAUGET, ILL. - No. 1 ranked Mount Olive secured its spot in Saturday’s national championship game with a 5-3 victory over No. 7 ranked Central Missouri Thursday afternoon in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II National Championships at GCS Ballpark.
The Trojans (57-6), who will be making their first national championship appearance, will face either No. 2 ranked Sonoma State or No. 4 ranked Ouachita Baptist on Saturday at 1 p.m. Central Missouri ends its season at 47-17.

SAUGET, Ill. – The bats struggled early, then came alive as the fourth-ranked Ouachita Baptist baseball team plated 10 runs between the fifth and seventh innings to eliminate Ashland , 12-5, during Wednesday’s NCAA Division II College World Series play at GCS Ballpark.
“We did a good job today,” Tigers coach Scott Norwood said. “We were emotionally spent after yesterday. Ashland is a great team and Trent (Lingle) did a good job on the mound.”

SAUGET, Ill. – Down seven runs after three innings, the fourth-ranked Ouachita Baptist baseball team battled back and did the unbelievable by sending No. 3 Tampa home with a 12-10 come-from-behind victory against the Spartans during Tuesday’s NCAA Division II College World Series play at GSC Ballpark.
“Our team was resillant tonight,” Tigers head coach Scott Norwood said. “They did it all and hung together. They deserve all the credit. You’re never going to be the best unless you beat the best. Tampa is the two-time defending champs and it was a great accomplishment from our program to go out there and fight back to get the win.”

SAUGET, ILL. - Top-ranked Mount Olive used four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to rally from a 5-2 deficit against No. 4 ranked Ouachita Baptist en route to a 6-5 victory in a first round game that began Sunday night and concluded Monday morning at GCS Ballpark.

SAUGET, ILL., May 20, 2008 - The field is set and beginning on Saturday, eight teams from across the country embark on their quest for an NCAA Division II baseball national championship.
SIU Edwardsville and the University of Missouri-St. Louis, along with the village of Sauget and the Gateway Grizzlies, will co-host this year’s World Series at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Illinois, home of the Frontier League’s Grizzlies. ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist baseball team will begin its quest for an NCAA Division II College World Series title starting 2:30 p.m., Sunday, May 25 against Mount Olive in the opening round of the tournament at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Ill.
The Tigers (47-14) have won four straight after falling in the Gulf South Conference Tournament to Southern Arkansas. Ouachita Baptist reached the collegiate World Series for the first time in school history by using dominate pitching and solid hitting throughout the NCAA Division II South Central Regional last week in Cleveland, Miss. CLEVELAND, Miss. – Making his first start in a month, Jarod Hershberger silenced the top-ranked Delta State bats as the 26th-ranked Ouachita Baptist baseball team will continue playing for another week as the Tigers defeated the Statesmen, 8-1, during Championship Day in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Monday at Dave “Boo” Ferriss Field.
Hershberger, who retired the first 11 batters, pitched 7 1/3 innings. He gave up a run on six hits with three strikeouts, while improving to 8-2. Steve Smith closed the door with his second save and three strikeouts.
“Pitching doesn’t change,” Hershberger said. “I had good stuff and was fortunate to keep Delta State off balance.”
Ouachita Baptist, which will make its first-ever trip to the NCAA Division II College World Series, struck first as Chad Taylor began the bottom of the second inning with a double to right center and with two outs, scored on an RBI base hit to right by Drew Wurzelbacher.
