SEGUIN, Texas – The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs opened the 2009 American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Series with a 10-1 win over the University of the Ozarks on Friday.

At TLU’s Katt-Isbel Field, the Bulldogs captured game one of the best two-of-three series with 15 total hits and with seven innings from freshman ace Brad Orosey (Houston/Cypress Creek).

Teaster also drove in seven runs, scored six times and walked twice. He was a single short of the cycle in the series opener against LeTourneau.

Texas-Dallas senior outfielder Jared Smith (New Caney, TX / Tyler JC) went 7-for-15 with three home runs, two doubles and 12 RBIs over four games. CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – The 4th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler baseball team converted all but two of its 19 hits into runs during Friday’s 17-10 American Southwest Conference win over Ozarks at Lonnie Qualls Field in Clarksville.

UT Tyler led 6-3 after three innings and 8-3 after seven, but it was another eighth inning scoring outburst that sealed the win for the Patriots.

The 8th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler baseball team took care of Hardin-Simmons, 5-3, on Saturday afternoon at Irwin Field to win the best-of-three game series and advance to next weekend’s Championship Round of the 2008 American Southwest Conference tournament.

UT Tyler jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning with RBI singles from seniors Kyle Braden (Carrollton, Texas) and Corey Farra (Lewisville, Texas.)

In the bottom of the inning, the Cowboys’ Wayne Pimpton tripled to lead of the inning and would score two batters later to pull within one.
