Share Kendall Rogers of Rivals continues his previews of conferences around the country today with the Big West. He believes that the Big West has nothing to worry about this year as they are deeper then usual as Cal-State Fullerton and UC-Irvine are contenders for a CWS bid.

Share Washington Huskies baseball will begin the Lindsay Meggs era in 2010. The new head coach released the upcoming season’s schedule for the Huskies, which will see his team start the year in the Tucson Tournament (Feb. 19-21). Coach Meggs will get his first taste of baseball at Husky Ballpark when the team welcomes Fresno State (Feb. 26-28) to Seattle for a weekend series. The Huskies will then hit the road for a season long eight game road trip with stops at Oregon (March 2-3), Long Beach State (March 5-7), and BYU (March 11-13).

UCR 15 – Columbia 5
The UC Riverside Baseball Team completed the three-game sweep of the Columbia Lions with a 15-5 win at the Riverside Sports Complex Sunday afternoon. Carl Uhl drove in five runs on the day and Tony Nix extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a fourth-inning double. The win is the fifth straight for the Highlanders (14-3) and 11th in the past 12 games.

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Sophomore southpaw Matt Leonard pitched six strong innings and junior left fielder Luke Yoder drove in the go-ahead run with a sixth-inning single as Cal Poly completed a three-game series sweep against Sacramento State with a 6-2 victory in a non-conference baseball game Sunday afternoon before 1,427 in Baggett Stadium.
Coach Larry Lee’s Mustangs extended their winning streak to six games and improved to 6-1 on the year, their best start since going 7-1 to open the 2001 campaign. Sacramento State fell to 1-5.

TEMPE, Ariz. – - No. 15 Mizzou attempted a late rally against Arizona State Thursday night in Tempe, Ariz., but fell short, as the eighth-ranked Sun Devils defeated the Tigers 2-1 on day one of the DeMarini Invitational. The loss extends Missouri’s losing streak to five.
Trailing 2-0 in the ninth inning, MU scored once and had the trying run at third base when the final out was recorded. Junior Greg Folgia and senior Ryan Lollis delivered back-to-back one-out singles. And Folgia scored on a sacrifice fly by junior Aaron Senne. LOS ANGELES – Derek Legg scored the eventual game-winning run in the top of the ninth Sunday while Charlie Ruiz threw 1 2/3 perfect innings in relief as the Long Beach State 49ers beat the USC Trojans, 5-4, at Dedeaux Field. Sophomores Caleb Shofner and Brooks Raley had four hits each on Sunday afternoon as No. 1 Texas A&M rallied for an 8-5 win over Wright State and a series sweep before 3,207 fans at Olsen Field.

Stockton, Calif. – In 2009, Pacific welcomes back 20 returning letterwinners as Head Coach Ed Sprague enters his sixth season with a new coaching staff. During the summer of 2008, Sprague brought aboard Don Barbara, Mike McCormick and Chris McCormack after the three worked together at Sacramento State. Barbara is especially familiar with the Big West Conference, as he spent seven years as an assistant coach at Long Beach State (1997-99, 2001-04). For the second straight season, Sprague has Wes Yourth as his director of baseball operations. Rounding out his staff, Sprague will be joined by Noah St. Urbain as an undergraduate assistant coach, after Noah spent three of his four collegiate years with the Tigers (2005, 2007, 2008). Receiving 78 points and seven first-place votes, Cal State Fullerton was tabbed as the favorite to win the 2009 Big West Conference crown, according to the Big West Conference preseason poll conducted by the league’s nine head coaches. The Titans have claimed at least a share of seven of the last 10 league titles and a conference-best 14 overall. UC Irvine was selected to finish second with 67 points and UC Santa Barbara was picked third after receiving 65 points and one first-place nod.

Stockton, Calif. – In the final game of the 2008 Orange and Black World Series, the Orange Tigers gave themselves a tally in the win column with an 8-4 victory over their Black Tiger counterparts on Nov. 21.
