Army 17 USC-Upstate 10

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Kevin McKague went 4-for-6 with two doubles, two runs scored and three runs batted in and Clint Moore keyed an eight-run fifth with a three-run home run as Army raced past South Carolina-Upstate 17-10, Friday afternoon at Harley Park.

The Black Knights (2-2) fell behind early 3-1 before tying the score at 3-3 with two runs in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by McKague and a run-scoring double by Ben Koenigsfeld. Read the rest of this entry »

Game 1: Lafayette 2 Ohio 1
Game 2: Lafayette 10 Davidson 6

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Leopards began their 2009 baseball season with a bang, taking both games of a season-opening doubleheader in Davidson. Lafayette won a 2-1 decision against Ohio in the day’s first game and capped off the afternoon with a 10-6 win over host Davidson.

Senior shortstop Daniel Bierce led the Lafayette offense with five hits, including a two-run home run against Davidson, and added three RBI. Sophomore righty Zach Fritz tossed 6.2 shutout innings against Ohio and Corey Shea threw four innings of one-run relief in the Leopards’ second victory. Read the rest of this entry »

The Patriot League saw only three teams in action with none of the teams picking up a win.

Virginia 12 Bucknell 0

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Three Virginia pitchers combined on a shutout of Bucknell and limited the Bison to just four hits as the Bucknell baseball team dropped its season opener to the Cavaliers, 12-0, Friday evening at a chilly and blustery Davenport Field. WEST POINT, N.Y. – Freshman Drew Constable (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) knocked in the winning run and Bison hurlers freshman Eric Jarrett (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) and senior Jason Buursma (Seattle, Wash./Lakeside School) combined for a two-hit shutout as the Bucknell baseball team defeated Army, 1-0, to advance to the Patriot League championship against Navy next week. WEST POINT, N.Y. – Cole White scattered six hits in the opener, and Matt Fouch and Kirk Porter combined on a three-hitter in the nightcap as Army regained a share of first place in the Patriot League standings by posting a pair of shutout victories against Lehigh, Sunday afternoon at Doubleday Field.

The Black Knights won the first game 5-0 behind the stellar pitching of White, then rode the dominant performances of Fouch and Porter to a 6-0 victory in the second game. LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell baseball squad rode clutch performances by senior Mathew Wilson (Toronto, Ontario/Northern S.S.) and sophomore Ben Yoder (Belleville, Pa./Indian Valley) to a doubleheader sweep of Holy Cross on Sunday afternoon on Depew Field. Wilson fanned 11 batters in a complete game shutout effort as the Bison defeated the Crusaders, 3-0, in game one, while Yoder registered a walk off single in the bottom of the ninth in game two, leading the Orange and Blue to a 7-6 victory in that contest.
