Leary announces 2009 baseball schedule
Lehigh baseball coach Sean Leary announced the 2009 schedule on Thursday, which includes trips up and down the east coast and appearances in the Palm Beach Challenge and the Liberty Bell Classic.
Leary’s squad will spend the first month of the season on the road, traveling to the warmer-weather South throughout the latter parts of February and early March. The Mountain Hawks open up with a trip to Hattiesburg, Miss., where they will play a three-game set with Southern Miss from Feb. 20-22. The opening weekend will be a challenge for The Mountain Hawks, as the Goldan Eagles won 41 games last season, including 25 in Hattiesburg.

 Tony LaRussa visiting West Point
Tony LaRussa who is currently in the midst of his 13th season with the St. Louis Cardinals spent Monday visiting the West Point campus. He was the special guest of West Point Superintendent Buster L. Former University of Memphis pitcher Brandon Rowan has joined the Pitt baseball coaching staff announced head coach Joe Jordano. Rowan, who most recently held the head coaching position at Crichton College in Memphis, Tenn., joins the Panthers’ staff as a volunteer assistant coach.
“I am very pleased to have a coach of Brandon Rowan’s character and experience join our staff,” said head coach Jordano.

 Head Coach Frtiz Hamburg- Saint Joseph

Fritz Hamburg has been named the head baseball coach at Saint Joseph’s University, it was announced today by director of athletics Don DiJulia. Hamburg was previously the associate head baseball coach at the United States Military Academy.
“We’re pleased and excited to have Fritz on board as he owns a rich and well-rounded background in baseball,” said DiJulia. “We look forward to him enhancing the student-athlete experience in and out of the classroom, and on and off the field.”

 Joe Ezekiel- Lafayette College

EASTON, Pa. - Joe Ezekiel, currently playing for the Leesburg Lightning of the Florida Collegiate Summer League (FCSL), won the league’s Home Run Derby at the July 20 All-Star Game in Sanford, Fla.
Ezekiel hit a combined 13 homers to defeat the Diamond Dawgs’ Steve Sabins. He hit six home runs in first round to tie for the lead and went on to defeat Sabins 7-4 in the head-to-head final round.

Mitch Harris of the Naval Academy will not be allowed to get out of his commitment to service thus ending his career based on an AP article recently. FSU 24 Bucknell 9
Tallahassee, Fla. - Second-ranked Florida State (50-11) stayed alive in the NCAA Tournament with a 24-9 victory over Bucknell (30-24-2) Sunday afternoon at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles advanced to the regional finals against Tulane and must now defeat the Green Wave twice with game one being held later this evening at 7 pm. The Seminoles became the first team in the nation to reach the 50-win plateau.
With the win, the Seminoles braved off elimination for the second straight game moving to 42-23 in possible elimination games in regional action of the NCAA Tournament. Read the rest of this entry »

Tallahassee, Fla. - Second-ranked Florida State (49-11) thwarted elimination on Saturday afternoon downing intra-state rival Florida (34-24) 17-11 in game three of the Tallahassee Regional. The Seminoles registered a season-high 25 hits as every batter in the starting line-up recorded a hit, while eight of the nine batters collected multiple hits. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — In the biggest win in Bucknell baseball history, senior Mathew Wilson pitched a complete-game, six-hit shutout against hard-hitting Florida State, and the Bison pulled off a 7-0 upset on opening night of the NCAA Tournament on Friday at Dick Howser Stadium.
Dane Grandizio went 4-for-5 to lead the offense, and the Bison scored three times in the second inning, another in the third and three more in the fourth. Wilson took it from there, eclipsing the school record with his fifth career shutout. Read the rest of this entry »

The Florida State Seminoles will host a Regional this year with rival Florida, Tulane, and Bucknell. The Seminoles have a 48-10 record while going 24-6 in the ACC which was good enough to win the Atlantic Division. The Gators of Florida will take their 34-22 record and a SEC record of 17-13 up the road to Tallahassee. The Green Wave of Tulane will come over from New Orleans to get back in the NCAA Tournament after a one year absence. They have a 37-20 record while going 13-9 in Conference USA. The last team in the Regional is Bucknell out of the Patriot League where they have a 29-22 overall mark and a conference record of 10-10. Read the rest of this entry »

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Senior Ed Rubbo (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) dropped the game-winning single just inside the right field line with two out in the bottom of the ninth, helping the Bucknell baseball team claim the 2008 Patriot League title with an 8-7 come-from-behind victory over Navy in game two of the best-of-three Patriot League Championship series.
