PRINCETON, N.J. — It has been since the late 1980s that Dartmouth hoisted a championship in Baseball. In 1987, the Big Green, led by star pitcher Mike Remlinger, brought the old EIBL championship to the friendly confines of Hanover, N.H. Since then, six other Ivy League teams have won the title as the Big Green waited for another shot at glory. That all changed in 2009 as Bob Whalen’s squad emerged to take the Ivy League Baseball Championship in the rubber match of a three-game series with Bill Walkenbach’s Cornell squad, all the while ending the 22-year drought. Cornell’s Nate David (Atlanta, Ga.) hit .533 on the week to lead the Big Red to a 3-3 mark and a share of the Gehrig Division crown. The centerfielder posted at least one hit in five of the six games, including a 3-for-3 performance in game two of the doubleheader against Princeton on Friday. He then went 2-for-3 in game one on Sunday for his second multi-hit game of the week. He opened up the week with a grand slam in his only at-bat at Siena on Tuesday, then went 1-for-3 in the nightcap against the Saints. Read the rest of this entry »

Share Here is your Ivy League Recap for the final weekend of action. Dartmouth won the Red Rolfe Division for the second straight year while Princeton and Cornell tied for the Gehrig Division title. Princeton and Cornell will play a playoff game on Wednesday at Cornell to decide which team advances to the Ivy League Championship next weekend which will be hosted by Dartmouth at newly renovated Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park. Game 2: Harvard 6 Dartmouth 4 (10 innings)
HANOVER, N.H. -A nine-run second inning allowed Dartmouth to cruise to a 14-2 victory in the first game of a doubleheader before falling to Harvard in game two in 10 innings, 6-4, in front of 1,237 fans at Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park on Senior Day. Coupled with Brown’s doubleheader split at Yale this afternoon, the Big Green (21-12, 15-3 Ivy) have clinched at least a share of the Rolfe Division crown as they own a two-game lead on the Bears with two to play. Share PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dartmouth’s Mike Pagliarulo (Winchester, Mass.) found his power stroke this week, blasting four home runs in the five games he started while driving in a team-high 11 runs. He cranked his first homer, a solo shot, against Vermont before sending three out of the park in the final three games at Yale. His three-run shot in the first game Sunday gave Dartmouth a quick 3-0 lead in the first, then he capped the series finale with a grand slam in the ninth. Read the rest of this entry »

Game 1: Dartmouth 14 Brown 9
Game 2: Brown 12 Dartmouth 9
HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth (14-10, 11-1 Ivy) banged out 16 hits in the first game of a doubleheader and scored eight times in the sixth to rally for a 14-9 victory over Brown and extend its winning streak to 13 games on Sunday afternoon at Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park. But the Bears (13-15-1, 8-4 Ivy) clawed back in the second game, overcoming a five-run deficit before scoring three in the ninth for a 12-9 triumph and become the first Ivy team to defeat the Big Green this year. The 13-game streak was the third longest in school history, behind a 21-game winning streak in 1970 — the year Dartmouth advanced to the College World Series — and a 16-gamer in 1997. HANOVER, N.H. – In a showdown between the top two teams in the Rolfe Division standings of the Ivy League, Dartmouth posted a pair of 5-2 victories on Saturday afternoon over the visiting Brown Bears (12-14-1, 7-3 Ivy) to extend its winning streak to 12 games and remain unblemished in conference play. The Big Green (13-9, 10-0 Ivy) got a gutty pitching performance by junior Robert Young (Cleburne, Texas) in the opener of the four-game series, while junior Ben Murray (Grants Pass, Ore.) tossed an efficient eight innings in game two. Providence, R.I. – Brown took a pair of tight games against Ivy rival Columbia on Sunday afternoon, as Bruno’s bats continued to swing well. Sophomore Matt Colantonio (Garden City, N.Y.) blasted a two-run walk-off home run to center field in the second game, bringing the fans to their feet and the team streaming out onto the field as the Bears ran their league win streak to six consecutive games.
