cbfpitchingoftheyearLUBBOCK, Texas — The College Baseball Foundation has narrowed the list of players to 15 semifinalists for the Pitcher of the Year Award.

Stephen Strasburg of San Diego State continues to mow down hitters with his NCAA-leading 164 strikeouts and added a no-hitter to his list of accomplishments on May 8 in a win against Air Force. He is 11-0 with a 1.24 ERA in 87.1 innings of work. Read the rest of this entry »

cbfpitchingoftheyearLUBBOCK, Texas — The College Baseball Foundation and Mizuno announced today the first watch list for the inaugural presentation of the Pitcher of the Year Award. The Pitcher of the Year will be honored during the College Baseball Awards Show on July 2 in Lubbock.

The 2008 Roger Clemens Award Watch list members was recently announced with 78 players. The list is led by Jacob Thompson of Virginia who was a finalist for the award in 2007 after going 14-0. The list has ten players from the SEC which is the most for any conference with Rice and Arizona State having the most representatives with three each. Wes Roemer and Jared Clark both of Cal State Fullerton have recently been injured according to Aaron Fitt of Baseball America. He states that Roemer has a broken pinky finger on his throwing hand. The Titans are trying to have Roemer pitch through the injury. Jared Clark is out for the 2007 season with a torn ACL. This a huge loss for the Titans since Clark hit five home runs last season and was expected to contribute significantly this season. Jeff Dietz was honored by the Collegiate Baseball as their pick for the Ivy League pitcher of the year. Jeff went 3-1 with a 2.73 ERA last season in the Ivy League and is expected to contribute more this season. The full release is available here.
