(PITTSFIELD, MA) – Wahconah Park is one of the oldest and most historic baseball stadiums in America. Fans have seen organized baseball on this site since 1892 and have witnessed future major leaguers in their prime on the way to the Major Leagues.

Hall of famer Carlton Fisk played at Wahconah Park in 1969 for the Red Sox minor league affiliate and future hall of famer Greg Maddux did the same for the Cubs in 1986.

The ballpark has also seen many famous visiting players as well, but now Wahconah Park is making history with a few new visitors.

The Vermont Mountaineers and the Pittsfield American Defenders played a very interesting NECBL game on Friday night. The game featured a near protest, a sun delay, and an eventual suspension of the game due to lighting in the area. The reason for the sun delay is the fact that Wahconah Park in Pittsfield MA has the stadium facing towards the west with the sun setting in center field thus getting in the batters eyes. The near protest was over Pittsfield using a player not listed as a substitute on the lineup card at the beginning of the game which Vermont questioned on multiple occasions. Pittsfield 5 Team USA 2

(PITTSFIELD, Mass.) – Two errors led to three unearned runs, and that made the difference as the USA Baseball National Trials Team dropped a 5-2 decision Tuesday to the Pittsfield Dukes of the New England Collegiate Baseball League at Wahconah Park. The game was the first of two Tuesday for U.S. team traveled, which traveled to Torrington, Conn., immediately following the game for a nightcap against the Torrington Twisters.

After taking 1-0 lead on a two-out, first-inning double from Blake Smith (California; Modesto, Calif.), the National Trials team allowed four runs on three hits, a hit batter and one costly error in the bottom of the second. Perry Silverman had the key hit in the inning, a two-run double off the wall in left-center. The Dukes added another run on a walk, a passed ball and an error in the fourth.
