The Corvallis (OR) Knights swept a best-of-three series against the Wenatchee (WA) AppleSox to win their first West Coast Collegiate Baseball League championship. The AppleSox won the championship in 2006 and 2007.
The Knights won the first game of the series 6-4 (11 innings) in Wenatchee. The star of that game was Doug Cherry (Washington), who went 4-5, reached base six times, and was spectacular on defense. He drew a walk in the ninth to bring in the tying run and send the game into extra innings. Bryant Kraus (Portland) batted in the winning run in the 11th. PORTLAND, Ore. - A hit parade helped propel the 13th-ranked University of San Diego baseball team to a 13-8 win over the University of Portland Sunday afternoon at Joe Etzel Field.
With the win, the Toreros improve to 27-11 overall, move to 7-2 in the WCC, complete a three-game sweep over the Pilots and run their winning streak to eight games. With the loss, the Pilots fall to 16-20 Overall and 2-7 in the WCC. Read the rest of this entry »

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - University of Alabama senior first baseman Matt Bentley slammed two home runs, including a solo blast in the fifth inning that gave the Crimson Tide the lead for good, in a 9-5 win over the Samford Bulldogs Wednesday night at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
Bentley went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in leading the Crimson Tide to its sixth straight win. Bentley gave the Tide the lead for good with a two-out, solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning off losing pitcher Michael Jarry. SURPRISE, Ariz. – Hawai’i took a 4-0 lead and never trailed in a 7-3 victory over Northern Illinois Thursday night at Surprise Stadium. The Huskies (0-2), who played a school-record 16-inning game prior to the nightcap, got within a run with a three-run seventh but were unable to take a lead in the contest. The West Coast Conference announced the 2008 Preseason Conference Poll as selected by the coaches. San Diego is selected to finish in first place as they received seven out of a possible eight first place votes with Santa Clara getting the other one. Pepperdine comes in second place followed by Santa Clara in third place. The conference should be decided by these three schools as they all return veteran squads. The rest of the poll is filled with LMU, Gonzaga, San Francisco, Portland, and St. Mary’s. The full press release is available by clicking here.

 According to a press release from Fresno State, the field for the 2008 Pepsi Johnny Quik Tournament has been set. The Fresno State Bulldogs will act as host of the tournament with Utah, New Mexico State, Portland, Gonzaga, and Indiana all taking part in the week long tournament from March 10th-15th.
