Providence, R.I. – Brown took a pair of tight games against Ivy rival Columbia on Sunday afternoon, as Bruno’s bats continued to swing well. Sophomore Matt Colantonio (Garden City, N.Y.) blasted a two-run walk-off home run to center field in the second game, bringing the fans to their feet and the team streaming out onto the field as the Bears ran their league win streak to six consecutive games. Princeton, N.J. – Brown continued to play well on the first weekend of Ivy play, sweeping a doubleheader with Princeton by a combined score of 14-5. Junior infielder Robert Papenhause (Hillsborough, CA) had a terrific day at the plate for the Bears, going four-for-six with a pair of walks, a home run, and four RBI’s. With the win, Brown improves to 6-11 overall, and 3-1 in the Ivy League, while Princeton falls to 8-9 on the season, and 1-3 in league play. Read the rest of this entry »

Ithaca, N.Y. – Brown split with Cornell on Saturday afternoon, going 1-1 to open Ivy League play. Sophomore designated hitter Pete Greskoff (Paoli, PA) had the big hit for the Bears in the opener, coming through with a three-run home run in the top of the fifth. PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Princeton’s Brian Berkowitz (Marietta, Ga.) enjoyed a nice series against William & Mary over the weekend, pacing the Tigers from the plate. The junior outfielder was a menace at the plate, and finished six-for-13 (.462). Two the six hits were home runs, including a grand slam in the third game of the weekend. Share The College Baseball Blog continues our previews of conferences around the nation today with a preview of the Gehrig Division of the Ivy League. The Columbia Lions won the divisional title last season which qualified them for the Ivy League Championship series. Philadelphia, PA – Senior pitcher Alex Silverman (Wilmington, NC) out-pitched Penn ace Todd Roth, with a little help from his closer, to help the Brown baseball team (7-11, 1-3 Ivy League) pick up its first Ivy League win in a split with Penn (7-9-1, 1-2-1 Ivy League) on Sunday at Meiklejohn Stadium. Silverman went 6.1 innings before giving way to senior closer Rob Hallberg (River Edge, NJ) for the final two outs in the Bears’ 2-1 game one win, before Penn’s five-run rally in the fifth inning of game two led to a 6-4 Quaker win for the split. Share Gotham Baseball has put out their Players of the Week and Weekend Recap. They have given the Beast of the Week to Jack Murphy of Princeton for going 16-30 with nine RBI for last week. The College of New Jersey pitcher Mike Oliver was named the pitcher of the week after striking out an amassing 16 batters in a seven inning game.
