ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Following an inaugural event in which nearly 17,000 spectators attended games in a three-day period, the second Big Ten/BIG EAST Baseball Challenge, hosted by the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Sports Commission, has been confirmed for the weekend of Feb. 26-28, 2010. Central Arkansas 6 at Stephen F. Austin 4
The SFA baseball team scored a pair of runs in the ninth inning to tie the game, but Central Arkansas answered with two runs in the top of the 10th to complete a conference-opening, three-game sweep of the ‘Jacks, 6-4, at Jaycees Field on Sunday.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Central Arkansas senior pitcher Jeremy Cloud was dominant in the Southland Conference opener for the Bears on Friday, tossing a one-hitter in a 9-0 victory over Stephen F. Austin at Jaycees Field.
Cloud (2-0) faced only 27 batters, striking out five and walking none as the Bears won their fifth consecutive game, their longest winning streak since moving to NCAA Division I. UCA improved to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in SLC play.

 The Big Ten will open the 2009 baseball season at the Big East-Big Ten Challenge on Feb. 20.

PETERSBURG, FL – Due to the recent unavailability of Progress Energy Park, the schedule for the inaugural BIG EAST-Big Ten Baseball Challenge has been adjusted to include games at McKechnie Field in Bradenton and Red McEwen Field at the University of South Florida. The BIG EAST-Big Ten Baseball Challenge, hosted by the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Sports Commission, begins on Friday, Feb. 20.

CHICAGO – The Big Ten Network will nationally televise up to 30 Big Ten baseball games, including the entire Big Ten Baseball Tournament, and 25 Big Ten softball games this spring. Every game will be produced in high definition.

PETERSBURG, FL – The home and away team designations for the inaugural BIG EAST-Big TEN Baseball Challenge, hosted by the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Sports Commission, have been determined by the participating conference offices, it was announced today.  Head coach Doug Schreiber inked six players during the fall signing period.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue baseball team has signed six players to National Letters of Intent, head coach Doug Schreiber announced today. The class includes three players from Indiana and one each from California, Illinois and Wisconsin. The six will enroll at Purdue in the fall of 2009.
“We are very excited to have signed these six outstanding student-athletes,” Schreiber said. “Not only have they been successful on the field and in the classroom, but each has a strong commitment to win. This group will play a big role in the continued success of our program.”

MITCHELL KEYS RALLY AS BLUE TEAM TAKES GAME FOUR 5-4, EVENS SERIES 2-2
In a series that’s gone back and forth so much, it’s only fitting that the Blue team would rally for a come-from-behind win of its own after being on the opposite end in Wednesday’s game three. That’s exactly what happened Thursday night at Stanky Field.
Leading off the bottom of the seventh, freshman catcher Brent Mitchell got the rally started when he hit a towering solo homer that cut the Red team’s lead to 4-3. He topped that hit an inning later with a game-winning, RBI-double as the Blue team overcame a late 4-2 deficit to win game four 5-4 and even the Red and Blue World Series at two games apiece.

Mississippi State Baseball Alumni Gather Next Weekend On Campus
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Plans are moving forward for the 13th alumni baseball weekend next week at Mississippi State. The biennial event, scheduled October 18-19, is expected to draw more than 50 former baseball players and managers representing teams spanning eight decades of Mississippi State baseball to the MSU campus.
The weekend schedule kicks off Saturday at 1 p.m. with an alumni golf tournament at the MSU Golf Course, followed by a dinner in the Bryan Athletic Administration Building. Capping the weekend will be the 2008 alumni baseball game, with Diamond Dogs of the past teaming with members of the 2009 Mississippi State team in a Maroon/White game at Dudy Noble Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. and is open to the public with no charge for admission.
