The College Baseball Blog made the short trek over to Holy Cross to take in a split doubleheader with Holy Cross playing both Yale and Quinnipiac in nine inning games. CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Sophomore right-hander Bryant Gaines struck out a career-best nine batters in six-plus innings, and All-America Dustin Ackley had two home runs among his four hits to pace No. 1 North Carolina to a 12-3 win over Appalachian State Wednesday at Boshamer Stadium.  NEC Preseason Favorite Monmouth eyes fourth- ever league crown

Somerset, NJ — Monmouth won five first-place votes to find itself in its familiar position atop the Northeast Conference baseball preseason poll. The Hawks have earned the moniker of NEC preseason favorite in three of the past four years. Central Connecticut State collected two first-place nods to finish second in the vote by the conference’s eight head coaches followed by Wagner which garnered the remaining first-place vote in third. The league office released the annual rankings on Thursday as a prelude to its 23rd season of Division I baseball.

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University baseball Head Coach Dan Gooley has announced the signing of six players to National Letters of Intent to attend Quinnipiac next fall. Connecticut natives George Dummar, III (Branford, Conn.), Spencer Kane (Wolcott, Conn.), Kevin Castodio (Pawcatuck, Conn.) and Alex Russow (Milford, Conn.) in addition to Derek Lamacchia (White Stone, N.Y.) and Tom Donovan (Marshfield, Mass.) will suit up for the Bobcats next season.
“We are very excited to have all six of these young men joining the Quinnipiac family,” Gooley said. “All of them have had great scholastic success, both on the field and in the classroom. We look forward to their contributions here at Quinnipiac.” Read the rest of this entry »

We recently saw the Big East and Big Ten set up an interconference matchups of games in Florida but we recently found out the America East and the Northeast conference will be playing a similar tournament from March 27th-29th. The three teams from the America East conference will visit the Northeast conference members over the three days where they will play single games on Friday and Sunday with a doubleheader on Saturday. Mississippi State Baseball Alumni Gather Next Weekend On Campus
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Plans are moving forward for the 13th alumni baseball weekend next week at Mississippi State. The biennial event, scheduled October 18-19, is expected to draw more than 50 former baseball players and managers representing teams spanning eight decades of Mississippi State baseball to the MSU campus.
The weekend schedule kicks off Saturday at 1 p.m. with an alumni golf tournament at the MSU Golf Course, followed by a dinner in the Bryan Athletic Administration Building. Capping the weekend will be the 2008 alumni baseball game, with Diamond Dogs of the past teaming with members of the 2009 Mississippi State team in a Maroon/White game at Dudy Noble Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. and is open to the public with no charge for admission.
