FROM CBB NEWS SOURCE

JimFosterURI KINGSTON, R.I. – The Rhode Island baseball program has released its 2010 schedule, which is highlighted by a trip to Virginia for a three-game series against the Cavaliers, who participated in the 2009 College World Series.

After a record-breaking season in 2009 – where the Rams set new single-season marks in wins, hits, runs, doubles, home runs and fielding percentage – the 2010 squad will look to pick up where it left off, returning all but three starters (two pitchers, one infielder) from a year ago.

NickGreenwood One of the biggest stories of the NCAA selection show was the fact that the Rhode Island Rams were not included. They had an outstanding season winning 37 games including victories over Miami (FL), Ohio State, and Oklahoma State. Three of the members of the team started professional careers after the season was over in Eric Smith, Nick Greenwood, and Dan Rhault. GoRhody.com Staff Writer Matt Swiss recently caught up with all three and Zach Zaneski who signed a free agent contract after the 2008 season with the Texas Rangers.

The College Baseball Blog made the annual trek out to Amherst MA to check out the UMass Minutemen. This trip was even more important as I got a chance to see the Rhode Island Rams who started to make some national noise this season with victories over Oklahoma State, NC State, Miami (FL), and Ohio State. The game featured a pair of lefthanders facing off with UMass giving the ball to Nick Serino while Rhode Island countered with Nick Greenwood. Read the rest of this entry »

justin-parks8-5-08The biggest thing we start hearing about around this time of the year is that certain teams are going to live and die by their conference tournament results. The biggest person to look at is the head coach of the respective school as they schedule all the games. We will compare the schedules of West Virginia against Rhode Island. Both of these programs are in likely one bid leagues this year but dealt with their early season scheduling much different. Read the rest of this entry »

Here are some of the best links from Around the Nation for today.

Jim Foster of URI was recently featured in the Providence Journal about how he tries to keep all the potential College Baseball players in the state of Rhode Island home. Freshman Nick Amhed of UConn recently had to step into the big shoes of Michael Olt who went down with a wrist injury. The next article comes from The State in South Carolina which talks about a scary situation in the Auburn and South Carolina game on Friday night. Auburn pitcher Chris O’Neill took a line drive off of DeAngelo Mack’s bat in the forehead.  The last article features Indian River State College baseball team who have had a tough season but could put themselves into postseason play with victories over the next two days. Kenny Burns of Rhode Island robs Mike Tamsin (Northeastern) of a sixth inning home run with an outstanding catch on April 20th. The catch did not help the Rams as J.T. Ross tossed a one hitter as the Huskies rolled 12-1 over the Rhode Island Rams.

Special thanks to Play by Play man Keith Lavon and Nate Owen for sending us the video.

I will check in throughout the season with my thoughts on some recent news and notes in College Baseball.

The biggest news on Tuesday was Arizona State dropping a tough road game against Arkansas 7-3 in Baum Stadium. The Razorbacks are now 23-6 while being 10-2 in the SEC. I know some people have questions on the Razorbacks early season schedule but they are 10-2 in the SEC with road series victories over South Carolina and Auburn. Read the rest of this entry »
