Share Head Coach Mark Johnson has released the 2010 slate for his Sam Houston State Bearkats. After winning the Southland Conference Tournament in 2009, the Bearkats look to continue their winning ways this season. The team will open the campaign on the road against in-state foe TCU (Feb. 19-21). After returning from Fort Worth, Sam Houston State will host Prairie View A&M (Feb. 23), Utah (Feb. 26-28), and Texas Southern (March 2) as well as the Hillcrest Invitational Tournament (March 5-7) in which Creighton and Northern Colorado will take part.

UNCW Summer Baseball Update – July 24
Cody Stanley (Cotuit) – Stanley represented UNCW and Cotuit at the Cape Cod All-Star game on July 23 and finished the rain-shortened contest 0-2 and caught the first four innings of the game. Stanley knocked in the second run of the game for the West team with a ground out. He’s hitting .296 with 13 runs scored in the pitching dominated summer league.

HOUSTON – The third-seeded Xavier baseball team captured the program’s first NCAA Tournament win Saturday afternoon, eliminating No. 4 Sam Houston State, 9-6, at Reckling Park in the Houston Regional hosted by Rice University. HOUSTON, Texas – Justin Bloxom went 5-for-5 at the plate with two home runs as 14th-ranked Kansas State cruised to a 16-8 win over Xavier in its first-ever NCAA Regional baseball game Friday afternoon at Reckling Park.
The Wildcats (42-16-1) belted 17 hits against the Musketeers (38-20) as Bloxom, Jordan Cruz (3-for-4), Carter Jurica (2-for-4) and Jason King (2-for-3) led the K-State offense in the opening game of the Houston Regional at Rice University. Read the rest of this entry »

The Rice Owls will host the Houston Regional at Reckling Park after finishing in second place in the Conference USA regular season and winning the Conference USA Tournament title. Kansas State, the two seed, meets Xavier, the three seed, at 2 p.m. CT on Friday. Following that game, host Rice will take the field against Sam Houston State, the four seed. The two teams split during their two regular season meetings, with the home team winning both affairs.
The first elimination game is slated for 2 p.m. CT on Saturday with the winner’s bracket championship to follow at 7 p.m. CT. The loser’s bracket championship game is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, and the first championship game is a 7 p.m. CT start time that same evening. CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Lions jumped out to a big lead with seven runs in the first two innings, but it was the bullpen that came up big on Thursday for the Southeastern Louisiana baseball team (36-21, 22-13 Southland Conference) as the Lions held off a rally by the Northwestern State Demons (26-26, 18-15 SLC) to advance to day three of the 2009 Southland Conference Baseball Tournament with a 9-7 win on Wednesday morning.

The Bobcats claimed their third regular-season championship and their first outright title last weekend after finishing the regular season with a 38-14 overall record and 24-7 mark in conference play.
