Here is your ACC Recap for March 1st. We only saw two games actually take place with eight cancellations with the weather in the southern part fo the USA.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The 10th-ranked University of Miami baseball team finished off a sweep of No. 12 Florida with a dominant 16-2 win Sunday afternoon in front of 3,038 fans at McKethan Stadium. SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference baseball coaches and the voting members of the Southern Conference Sports Media Association have each selected Elon as the preseason favorite to repeat as champion in 2009. A year ago, the Phoenix became the first team in seven seasons to win both the regular season and tournament titles en route to a 44-18 season and a berth in the NCAA Regionals.  Lex Rutledge has signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at Samford University.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The following is the third and final profile of Samford’s baseball signees from the early signing period. Today’s featured signee is Lex Rutledge. The coaching staff will announce further additions in the spring, though there are not expected to be many new additions due to the overall youth of the 2009 Samford Baseball team.
Lex Rutledge (LHP, 6-1, 185, Tupelo High School, Tupelo, Miss.) is a hard-throwing left-handed pitcher that helped lead his Tupelo High School team to a No. 1 national ranking last year after a 20-0 start to the season. He was 3-0 and struck out 20 hitters in 20 innings of work. During the second round of the team’s run to the state finals, he struck out six batters while allowing only one run against Clinton High School. Rutledge is ranked the No. 6 pitcher in the state of Mississippi by Perfect Game.

With today being November 12th, We enter the first step for potential college baseball athletes in deciding on where they will play for the next 3-4 years. The next step will be to see where they get drafted in the MLB Draft in June and the final step will be to see if they make it to campus in September.
As We get press releases they will be posted on the site.
Georgia Tech have signed three prep standouts to NLI’s
Two prep All-Americans highlight a list of three high school standouts that have already signed National Letters of Intent to play baseball at Georgia Tech beginning next fall, head coach Danny Hall announced Wednesday.

All Saint Mary’s baseball fans are being invited to a special treat, as this Wednesday, October 15, the Gaels baseball team will hold an inter-squad scrimmage at AT&T Park home of the San Francisco Giants.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Due to the devastation from multiple hurricanes during the past few months, the Samford baseball program has had to cancel its trip to Havana, Cuba, scheduled for Oct. 17-21, the athletics department announced on Thursday.
The Cuban government has asked all organizations that had planned travel to the island to suspend all travel for the duration of 2008. Read the rest of this entry »

The Samford Bulldog Athletic department has announced that the baseball team will be making a trip to Cuba from October 17th-21st. This will be the Bulldogs first forgeign trip for any kind and the second trip to Cuba as the football team competed in 1927 against Havana National University. The baseball team will leave Birmingham on October 17th for Havana then they will play up to four games against various All-Star teams in Havana while taking a day sightseeing around the capital city. Former University of Memphis pitcher Brandon Rowan has joined the Pitt baseball coaching staff announced head coach Joe Jordano. Rowan, who most recently held the head coaching position at Crichton College in Memphis, Tenn., joins the Panthers’ staff as a volunteer assistant coach.
“I am very pleased to have a coach of Brandon Rowan’s character and experience join our staff,” said head coach Jordano.

Lance Baxter, Staunton Braves, LHP, So., Silverhill, Ala. (South Alabama)
Baxter fired a no-hitter in Staunton’s 2-0 victory over Waynesboro on Thursday, July 5. The University of South Alabama lefty faced just one batter over the minimum in his complete-game effort, allowing runners to reach on a walk and an error with one of them picked off. Baxter struck out seven while firing the league’s first no-hitter since Paul Burnside of Winchester threw a perfect game in his first Valley League appearance in June of 2006. LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Tyler Mickits hit a two-run home run and Matt Lea, Neil Holland and Zack Pitts combined on a three-hit shutout, as the University of Louisville Cardinals blanked Morehead State 2-0 Tuesday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
After catcher Jeff Arnold reached on an infield single to lead off the fifth inning and moved to third on a throwing error, Mickits belted his first home run of the season deep to right center to put the Cards (27-16) on top 2-0 for the only scoring of the game. Read the rest of this entry »
