BigEast Kendall Rogers of Rivals continues his series of conference previews heading into fall ball today with the Big East Conference. He believes that the conference needs to take a massive step forward after the top three teams in St. John’s, Louisville, and Notre Dame in competing for a CWS title. Of course, the Big East has a major disadvantage as many of the schools in the conference have substandard facilities and poor weather which affects early season workouts.

PETERSBURG, FL – The schedule has been finalized and two state‐of‐the‐art major league venues have been added to the 2010 Big Ten/BIG EAST Baseball Challenge, hosted by the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Sports Commission, event manager API Sports announced today. Doubleheaders at Dunedin Stadium and Bright House Field highlight a slate that features 30 games over three days, Feb. 26‐28, 2010, at current and former big league facilities in the St. Petersburg and Clearwater, Fla., area.

SetonHallPirates The Seton Hall Pirates’ 53 game schedule will feature thirty games at Owen T. Carroll Field.  The Pirates begin the season with nine games away from home including road series at Texas A&M (Feb. 19-21) and William & Mary (Feb. 5-7) as well as three games in the Big East/Big Ten Challenge (Feb. 26-28) in Clearwater, Florida.  Seton Hall’s home opener will be as hosts of the SHU Strike Out Cancer Tournament (March 12-14) where the team will play games against NJIT, Iona, and Lafayette.

large_bachner I came across this story from Seton Hall Media Relations on incoming freshman David Bachner who was found dead at his home in Plainsboro on August 11th. According to a report from The Star-Ledger, Bachner was diagnosed with a heart condition in June as a doctor was giving him a physical for Seton Hall. He ended up wearing a heart monitor for a couple of games. He was expected to become an instant contributor to the Pirates rotation as Seton Hall gave him a full scholarship for next season. He finished his high school career with a 17-3 record with a 1.50 ERA and 236 strikeouts. You can check out a Star-Ledger report on him by clicking here. MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior Joe Agreste and freshman left-hander Jonathan Jones had stellar performances to lead the West Virginia University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep over Cincinnati on Saturday at Hawley Field.

Agreste’s four-RBI effort led the Mountaineers (33-14, 15-8) to a 15-9 victory in a back-and-forth battle in game one, and Jones (6-1) held a powerful Cincinnati offense to just one run on seven hits while striking out seven in 7.1 innings pitched in WVU’s 9-2 win in game two. Cincinnati 4 South Florida 2

TAMPA, Fla. – Senior Michael Hill (Proctorville, Ohio/Fairland) pitched eight innings and struck out eight men leading the University of Cincinnati baseball team to a 4-2 win over USF Saturday night at Red McEwen Field. The UC win handed USF its first home loss in conference play. Senior Jake Geglein (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) entered the game in the ninth inning and retired the side in order earning his seventh save of the season. TAMPA – The league-leading University of South Florida baseball team continued their winning ways Friday night beating Cincinnati 8-2.
