GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – Championship Series’ Most Valuable Player Ryan Nokelby (Texas Lutheran) plated Jeff Abrams (Binghamton) with a 10th-inning sacrifice fly as the Brockport Riverbats edged the Glens Falls Golden Eagles, 3-2, in 10 innings to win the 2008 New York Collegiate Baseball League championship. Tallahassee, Fla. - Florida State (6-0) remained undefeated on the season with a 4-3 victory over Auburn (4-3) in front of a crowd of 6,544, the fourth largest crowd to witness a game at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles got seven shutout innings from senior Ryan Strauss and three solo home runs on Saturday afternoon to win their third straight game over the Tigers this season. ROCK HILL, S.C. - Sophomore right-hander Alex White went six strong innings, and second baseman Kyle Seager drove in a career-best three runs for the second straight day in No. 2 North Carolina’s 8-1 win over Kent State Friday at the Coca-Cola Classic at The Winthrop Ballpark. The Siena Media Relations department has put out a substantial preview of the 2008 squad. The team went through a 21 game losing streak finishing the season with a 12-33 campaign. They return the entire infield which has played together since their freshmen campaign as they enter their final season together. The full article is available here.

EDISON, N.J. – Canisius College is the top choice to win it all during the 2008 MAAC baseball season, according to a preseason poll voted on by the league’s head coaches.

Canisius finished with 71 points in the poll, four points ahead of second-place Manhattan College (67). Marist College placed third with 66 points. Fairfield University and Siena College tied for fourth place (50), followed by Rider University (36), Saint Peter’s College (34), Iona College (19), and Niagara University (12). The Cornell baseball program has announced their 2008 schedule which is highlighted by a season opening tournament where they will play face Siena and the host Virginia in four games. They will also take part in the Villanova Classic where they will play Temple, LaSalle, and the host Wildcats. The Big Red will make their annual trip to Florida but they have not announced opponents for the entire week. The team will open at home against Ivy League power Harvard on March 29th. New Head Coach Kevin O’Sullivan and The University of Florida athletic department has released the 2008 baseball schedule on Wednesday. The Gators will open the season on February 22nd when they take on Siena for a three game set. The Gators will make the trip down to the University of Miami the next weekend before coming back home to take on defending Ivy League Champs Brown. The Gators will play Florida State three times this season with a game in each teams respective ballpark and a neutral site game in Jacksonville. In addition to the strong OOC schedule, Florida will play a full 30 games in the SEC which is highlighted by a visit from SEC power Vanderbilt to end the season. The full schedule is available here.

The Florida State Seminoles completed a sweep over Siena on Sunday by a score of 22-3. The Seminoles used a 15 run sixth inning to do most of the damage in the game. The Seminoles were able to get ten consecutive hits in that inning. This win puts the Seminoles record at 17-0 in the early part of the season. FSU will be back in action next weekend when the Hoosiers of Indiana come to visit while Siena will be back on the road next weekend when they visit Rocky Top Tennessee.
