Share Head coach Tony Gwynn has released the 2010 schedule for his San Diego State Aztecs. The Aztecs will enter the 2010 campaign without Stephen Strasburg, the first overall selection in the 2009 MLB Draft. SDSU will begin the season with six straight games at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The Aztecs host Oklahoma and Indiana (Feb. 19-22) opening weekend before a mid-week contest with UC Riverside (Feb. 23) and a split four-game weekend series against cross-town rival San Diego (Feb. 25-28).

Head Baseball Coach Tony Rossi has finalized his coaching staff for the 2010 season. Rossi announced today the promotion of Jimmy Jackson to pitching coach and recruiting coordinator as well as the the hiring of Keith Glasser and Phil Cahill as assistant coaches.
Jackson served as a volunteer assistant on the 2009 staff, working primarily with the catchers and outfielders. As the primary assistant, Jackson will oversee the staff’s recruiting efforts in addition to working with the pitching staff.

Share Wake Forest new head coach Tom Walter has announced that he has hired Bill Cilento as an assistant coach. He comes over from Brown University where he spent the last three seasons. He brought the Brown Bears to the NCAA Tournament in 2007 where they led the Ivy League in every offensive category including winning the team batting average title by 39 points. Junior, OF, 5-9/171, Mississauga, Ontario/Rick Hansen Secondary
Choy continued to stay hot for the Golden Griffins as the junior outfielder was 8-for-12 with two doubles, three home runs and five RBIs. He reached base in 12 of his 16 plate appearances while slugging 1.583 in four Canisius games. Choy entered the week with four home runs in his career, hitting three in the weekend series at Rider. BEAUMONT, Texas – Steven Tucker and Joey Latulippe combined for six hits and drove in four as Lamar defeated Siena, 6-1, to give longtime Lamar head coach Jim Gilligan his 1,100th win at Lamar Wednesday.
Gilligan is Lamar’s winningest coach with 1,110 career wins in 33rd year as a head coach.

Edison, N.J. – Canisius College is the team to beat in the 2009 MAAC baseball season, according to a preseason poll voted on by the league’s head coaches.
Canisius finished with 81 points in the poll, while Rider University finished second (66). Manhattan College placed third with 58 points. Marist College and Siena College tied for fourth place (53), followed by Fairfield University (30), Niagara University (29), Saint Peter’s College (19), and Iona College (12). Head coach Tony Rossi announced the signing of six student-athletes to binding National Letters of Intent today. Local products Kyle Baldani, Mike Fish and Robert Tedesco join Larry Balwkill, Jake Werdesheim and Justin Brantley as newcomers who will join the program next fall.
“I feel this class is every bit as good as last year’s which received an honorable mention ranking by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper as one of the top recruiting classes in the country,” Rossi said. “Assistant coaches Joe Sinicola and Rob Ditoma did an outstanding job identifying and addressing our needs for next year.” Read the rest of this entry »

Head Coach Tod Brown and the Bison’s of North Dakota State open their 2009 campaign on the road against Wichita State in a three game set starting on the 20th of February. The Bison’s hit the road again the following weekend to take on Murray State in a four game series with a double header on Saturday. Coach Brown and the Bison’s to take part in the Palm Beach Challenge.

Head coach Tony Rossi announced the hiring of Joe Sinicola as the baseball team’s new pitching coach and recruiting coordinator effective immediately. Sinicola graduated from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla. where he played four seasons before serving as an assistant coach this past year.
Sinicola will be the primary assistant to Rossi, overseeing the development of the Saints’ pitching staff while handling a bulk of the program’s substantial recruiting responsibilities.

Share GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – Championship Series’ Most Valuable Player Ryan Nokelby (Texas Lutheran) plated Jeff Abrams (Binghamton) with a 10th-inning sacrifice fly as the Brockport Riverbats edged the Glens Falls Golden Eagles, 3-2, in 10 innings to win the 2008 New York Collegiate Baseball League championship.
