Just when it started to look like the only interesting division race would be in the SEC West, Florida sent a message to the Georgia Bulldogs that they would not go down without a fight. Georgia hit the road for a series at Ole Miss, and the Rebels rallied to a two games to one series victory after dropping the Friday night game. Florida took advantage of the Georgia series loss, sweeping South Carolina to get within one game of the SEC East lead. LSU sits alone on top of the SEC West after a sweep of Auburn at home. SEC conference play rolls on this weekend with some pivotal matchups that will impact a tight SEC West race. Arkansas currently sits on top of the West, with a half game lead on LSU and Ole Miss and a one and a half game lead on Alabama. Georgia leads Florida in the SEC East by three games. The big matchup of the weekend will take place when the Georgia Bulldogs travel to Oxford to take on Ole Miss. The Rebels enter the weekend on a three game winning streak, the longest current winning streak in the conference. South Carolina travels to Florida in an Eastern Division clash. With a weekend full of exciting baseball and some surprises, the SEC conference provided plenty of entertainment. The spotlight series of the weekend was Arkansas at Georgia, and the two teams played three hard-fought games, with all three games decided by a total of four runs. LSU entered the weekend with what looked like an easy weekend opponent in Tennessee, but the Volunteers marched into the new Alex Box Stadium and took two of three from the Bayou Bengals. Share The SEC race heats up this weekend with another big series in Athens, Georgia. The Georgia Bulldogs took the lead in the SEC race after an impressive sweep of Kentucky last weekend. This weekend they welcome the Arkansas Razorbacks into town, with the Hogs trailing the Bulldogs in the SEC race by only a half game. Florida sits in second place in the SEC East behind Georgia and will have a stiff home challenge in Ole Miss, who sports the same 9-6 conference record as the Gators. Vanderbilt, who posted a two game sweep over Arkansas last weekend, looks to improve on their 7-7 SEC record when the Alabama Crimson Tide visit Nashville. Read the rest of this entry »

Share Dallas Keuchel (5-0, 3.45 ERA) and the SEC leading Razorbacks host Vanderbilt this weekend.
As the fifth week of SEC play begins, the Arkansas Razorbacks find themselves atop the standings with an impressive 10-2 conference record. The Vanderbilt Commodores, coming off a two games to one series victory over Florida last weekend, look to give Arkansas a home test. LSU, tied for second place in the SEC West, travels to Alabama to take on the Crimson Tide. The Florida Gators sit at 7-5 in league play and just one game behind SEC East leader Georgia, and they will be travelling to Auburn to take on the Tigers. CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina right-hander Patrick Johnson carried a no-hitter into the seventh against hard-hitting East Carolina, and the No. 2 Tar Heels held off a late rally for a 3-1 win over the No. 14 Pirates Tuesday at Boshamer Stadium. With the victory, Carolina (25-7) extended its current winning streak to nine over ECU (25-6).
Johnson (2-0) was masterful against the Pirates, who entered the night eighth nationally with a .361 team average. Over a career-best 6 1/3 innings, the Conover, N.C., native struck out a career-high 11, walked three and allowed just the one base hit in the seventh. He retired six of the final seven batters he faced via the strikeout and fanned two or more in four separate frames. Read the rest of this entry »

All eyes were on Athens, with the LSU Tigers making the trip to play the Georgia Bulldogs in a battle of top-five teams. The series was as competitive as everyone thought it would be, and LSU came out on top with a 2-1 series victory to improve to 8-4 in conference play. Georgia is also now 8-4 in SEC play and leads Florida, who lost two of three at Vanderbilt last weekend, by one game in the standings. Arkansas is still on top of the SEC West and overall standings with a 10-2 conference mark after taking two of three on the road at South Carolina. Ole Miss dominated Kentucky at home in a three-game sweep to improve to 8-4 in league play and put themselves in a tie with LSU for second in the SEC West. Auburn improved their SEC record to 6-6 by taking two of three from Mississippi State in Starksville. Alabama swept Tennessee to get back to .500 in league play, while the Volunteers fell to a lowly 1-11 in SEC play.

Share Dave Perno and the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs host LSU in a SEC battle this weekend.
The SEC enters the fourth weekend of conference play this week. The spotlight series is LSU at Georgia, with both teams ranked in the top five in the nation. Georgia is coming off a mid-week sweep of Clemson and is looking to top it off with a weekend victory over the fifth ranked Tigers. LSU is looking for a series victory to catch back up with Arkansas in the SEC West race. The Hogs sit at a very impressive 8-1 in conference play and travel to South Carolina to take on the Gamecocks. The Florida Gators, winners of six straight conference games, travel to Vanderbilt to take on the Commadores. The Kentucky Wildcats travel to Ole Miss to do battle with the Rebels, and Auburn will take its high-powered offense on the road to Mississippi State.
