LAKE CHARLES, La. – Lamar hit three home runs and had eight extra-base hits to defeat McNeese State 13-5 at Cowboy Diamond on Sunday to become the third team to secure a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament.
Andy Mena was one of four players to finish with three hits, including his second home run of the season, drove in three and scored twice.

NATCHITOCHES – A day after the Northwestern State arms put the Central Arkansas Bear bats into hibernation in Friday’s 1-0 win, the Demon bats were resurrected in Saturday’s doubleheader for a combined 27 hits in 10-3 and 12-6 wins to complete a three-game Southland Conference baseball sweep.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The University of Central Arkansas baseball team put away Texas A&M-Corpus Christi early with a 20-6, seven-inning victory at Chapman Field on Sunday afternoon. The Bears, after blowing leads in the first two games of the series, scored in every inning and posted a season-best 20 hits. UCA improves their record to 18-23 overall and 9-15 in Southland play, while the Islanders fall to 16-29 and 8-16.

Texas State has won its last eight games and Sam Houston State has won seven in a row entering Tuesday’s schedule. Both teams received votes in the NCBWA poll and Texas State, which has a one and a half game lead on both Sam Houston and UT Arlington. Conference play resumes Friday. Texas State plays host to McNeese State and Sam Houston welcomes Southeastern Louisiana. UT Arlington is at Stephen F. Austin. Other league action includes Central Arkansas at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UTSA at Nicholls State and Northwestern State at Lamar.

Texas State is in first place in the Southland Conference and has a two-game lead ahead of Sam Houston State and UT Arlington with five weeks remaining in the regular season. Just three games separate the top six teams in the league and five games separate the top nine teams in the standings. The Bobcats (24-10, 13-5 Southland), which are riding a five-game win streak after sweeping Southeastern Louisiana last weekend between wins over Houston Baptist, are at Northwestern State this weekend. Sam Houston (20-13, 11-7) is at Nicholls State and UT Arlington (18-16, 11-7) visits Central Arkansas. Other league action this weekend pits Lamar at UTSA, Stephen F. Austin at McNeese State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Southeastern Louisiana.
