McNeese State 17 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 7

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – McNeese State tied a season high by collecting 21 hits in a 17-7 eight inning Southland Conference victory over TAM-Corpus Christi on Sunday.

The victory was the second in three games by the Cowboys over the Islanders. They go to 11-10 overall and to 3-6 in league play while the Islanders are now 7-16 and 1-8.

HAMMOND – With one week of fall practice under the team’s belt, the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball coaching staff turns its attention from teaching the squad its fundamental system to evaluating the potential 2009 squad.

Week one focused on Southeastern’s newcomers cutting their teeth on the Lions’ system with the returnees getting a refresher course on all things Lion baseball. However, the Lion coaching staff will switch gears heading into week two.

SAN MARCOS – Steven Siers pitched seven full innings at Alumni Field blanking Southeastern Louisiana for his first career shut out, as the Texas State Bobcats run-ruled the Lions 11-0 Saturday afternoon in Hammond, La.

Texas State wasted no time putting the first run on the board when Laurn Randell put a two-out base hit into right field at the top of the first. On a wild pitch to Paul Goldschmidt, Randell advanced to second and Goldschmidt brought him around with a shot to centerfield.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama left-hander Miers Quigley threw one less scoreless inning Wednesday night than Southeastern Louisiana used pitchers in leading the Crimson Tide to a 7-0 win at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

The Texas State Bobcats sent four runs across the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning the appeared to be enough for a success over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, but a two-run eighth gave the Islanders a chance to catch up but the effort was stopped short and the `Cats held on for a 5-3 win over the foe at Bobcat Field Saturday afternoon. For the third consecutive week Southeastern Louisiana claims weekly honors as starting pitcher Wade Miley receives his first accolade of the season, giving the Lions three awards on the year for top marks in the SLC.
