The LSU-Shreveport Pilots, 27-3 and ranked #6 in the NAIA, defeated the Southern Arkansas Muleriders 7-6 in 12 innings, in a key cross-divisional matchup. Southern Arkansas is 21-7 and ranked #1 in Division II.
2B David Bradley smashed a game-winning double with two outs in the top of the 12th, scoring SS Andrew Blubaugh all the way from first base to win it for the Pilots.
Rchard Pharr was outstanding in relief for the Pilots, pitching four hitless innings and earning his third win of the season. Pharr did not allow a single hit in his four innings pitched to help lift the Pilots to the win. He is 3-1, 3.86 ERA for the season. Read the rest of this entry »

Allendale, Mich. – The Grand Valley State baseball team (16-2) is ranked #1 in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll that was released Tuesday (March 17). The Lakers received six first-place votes and 316 total points. The #1 ranking in the poll is Lakers’ first-ever seat atop a collegiate baseball poll.

TUSCON, Ariz. — Now in its 20th season of competition at the NCAA Division II level, the Cal State Stanislaus baseball program has reached the top for the first time. Monday, the Warriors were ranked No. 1in the nation by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll.

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The top-ranked University of Tampa baseball team split Sunday afternoon’s games, defeating No. 12 West Alabama 7-2 and dropping their second matchup against No. 19 Southern Arkansas by a score of 8-3. The split moves the Spartans to 6-3 on the season, while the Tigers also fall to 6-3 and the Muleriders to 7-3.
After falling behind in an early 2-0 hole, Tampa starter John Wiedenbauer rebounded with four scoreless innings, walking one batter and striking out eight. The Spartans slowly chipped away at the early deficit, first with Devin Gonzalez’s RBI double to drive in shortstop Jesus Barroso, who went 3-5 in the game and then with some small ball tied the game at 2-all. LIVINGSTON, Ala. – After Friday’s matchup against West Alabama was put off due to rain, the No. 1 University of Tampa Spartans collected their first two losses on the season when they dropped the series opener to No. 19 Southern Arkansas (6-3) by a score of 16-3 and fell to No. 12 West Alabama (6-1) 9-3. AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward’s baseball team dropped the final game in their season-opening series with #6 Southern Arkansas Monday afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field. The Hilltoppers lost the rubber game in this series, 8-6.
Southern Arkansas (2-1) got on the board first. Shortstop Adam Whittington opened the scoring in the fourth inning with a RBI single to right field. The Mulerider’s tacked on another run in the fifth inning. Second baseman Cannon Lester drove in a run on a double down the left field line.

AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward’s baseball team split two games with #6 Southern Arkansas Sunday afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field. The Hilltoppers took the first game, 8-7, and dropped the second contest, 9-5.
In game one, Southern Arkansas (1-1) got on the board early in the first inning. After a leadoff walk to designated hitter Dane Lucas, second baseman Cannon Lester delivered a two-run home run over the right field fence. The Mulerider’s scored again in the second inning when center fielder Gavan McCauley drove in a run on a groundout to second base.

CLEVELAND, Miss. – Steve Smith set a new collegiate career high for strikeouts with 14 as the 21st-ranked Ouachita Baptist baseball team stunned second seed and No. 7 Southern Arkansas, 5-2 during the opening round of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Friday at Dave “Boo” Ferris Field.
Smith (9-1), who got out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the third, tied the mark he set earlier this season against Henderson State , then broke the mark with a strikeout to John Long to end the game. The right-hander surrendered two runs on seven hits with a pair of walks.

ARKADELPHIA – The 24th-ranked Ouachita Baptist baseball team rallied to win the opening game 3-2, but dropped the second contest, 9-0, against No. 2 Southern Arkansas Saturday afternoon at Rab Rodgers Field to force a series deciding game Sunday.
After a scoreless first inning in the opener, Ouachita Baptist (38-11 overall, 9-7 GSC West) broke the tie by plating a run on two hits in the bottom of the second inning.
