Share Bethune-Cookman has released its tentative 2010 schedule. BCU will begin the campaign by taking part in the MLB Urban Classic Tournament (Feb. 19-21) with games against UCLA, Loyola Marymount, and Southern. From there, the team will travel to Jacksonville (Feb. 23) for a mid-week contest before visiting Lubbock, Texas, for a double round robin tournament with Texas Tech and Washington State (Feb. 26-28).
BCU will then face off against Stetson (March 2) and Jacksonville (March 3) at home before heading to Troy (March 5-7) for a weekend series. Before opening conference play at Florida A&M (March 20-21), Bethune-Cookman will have home games against Wagner (March 9-10, March 12), USF (March 14), VCU (March 14), and Stetson (March 16).

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Baseball, the defending Southern Conference Tournament champion, will play 34 games at J.I. Clements Stadium in 2010. Head coach Rodney Hennon announced the schedule on Friday (Sept. 11). Last year marked the 12th time in program history Georgia Southern advanced to the NCAA Regionals (#2 seed at Fullerton Regional).
The Eagles (42-17 overall, 20-8 SoCon last year) open the season playing 14 of their first 16 games at home, starting February 19-21 against Tennessee Tech. The series against the Golden Eagles is one of six GS will play against teams that qualified for the 2009 NCAA Regionals (Georgia Tech, Clemson, South Carolina, Elon and Jacksonville).

Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel Baseball team will welcome back former Bulldog Zach Brown as a volunteer assistant coach. Brown, a 2007 graduate, returns to The Citadel after a two and half year stint in the minor leagues with the San Diego Padres organization.
“We are excited for his return in our volunteer coaching position,” said Head Coach Fred Jordan. “Zach will be a great asset in all areas, especially with defensive work at first base.”

College of Charleston baseball coach Monte Lee will welcome 17 new student-athletes for the 2010 season, it was announced on Thursday.
The class is made up of five pitchers, nine position players and three players who pitch and play a position. The class represents three states (South Carolina, Florida and Georgia), including 12 from the state of South Carolina.
"We are excited about this class and what they bring to our program," said Lee, who enters his second season as coach of the Cougars. "I look forward to this group coming in and competing at a high level."

Share GREENVILLE, S.C. — Furman head baseball coach Ron Smith today announced the addition of nine players to the Paladin program.
The latest nine join the six signees announced in November in giving Furman 15 new players for the 2010 season.

UCF Leads All Conference USA Baseball Programs in Team GPA
ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – Already having set two program academic records in 2008-09, UCF baseball learned that its efforts in the classroom are standing out in Conference USA as well. The Knights ranked first of all C-USA baseball teams with an annual grade-point average of 3.174 to receive the league’s Sports Academic Award.

(PRINCE GEORGE, British Columbia) – Asher Wojciechowski (The Citadel) struck out nine batters in seven innings and Team USA beat Bahamas, 8-1, at the 2009 Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline World Baseball Challenge at Prince George Citizen Field.
Kolten Wong (Hawaii) hit a double down the right field line to score Tyler Holt (Florida State) in the first inning and Matt Newman (Arizona State) stole home in the second for a 2-0, Team USA lead.

(TSURUOKA, Japan) – Team Japan struck out 14 U.S. batters and Team USA stranded 16 runners on base as it fell to Japan 8-3 in game four of the 37th Annual USA vs. Japan Collegiate Championships in Tsuruoka, Japan.

STATESBORO, Ga. – Former Alabama pitching coach B.J. Green joins the Georgia Southern baseball staff. Green, who has over 12 years experience as both a player and coach in the Southeastern Conference, will serve as the pitching coach for the 2009 Southern Conference Champions.
Green served as the pitching coach for seven seasons at the Capstone and helped the Crimson Tide to six NCAA tournament appearances, two SEC Tournament Championships, a 2006 Super Regional Appearance, the 2006 SEC regular season title and the 2002 SEC West championship. (CHIBA, JAPAN) – Team USA (11-1) committed three errors and left eight runners on base in a 7-1 exhibition loss to Budo University, Friday, in Chiba, Japan. The loss was the first by the U.S. this summer and it snapped a 35-game winning streak for the National Team dating back to last season.
Tyler Holt (Florida State) reached second base on an error by the left fielder to begin the game and later scored Team USA’s lone run on an RBI groundout by Blake Forsythe (Tennessee) in the bottom of the first inning. Read the rest of this entry »
